So confused my head hurts

Well the title says it all....confused.com

Me and OH have decided it isnt working anymore and i am trying to get my finances in order and i have done numerous calculators and i do not seem to be entitled to anything other than some Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit??

My situation

• Single mum
• Worked 40hrs PW before going on MAT leave (due to return in a few months)
• Rent a private house through estate agent (pre split - i stayed in the house with the baby and am continuing with the tenancy)
• Currently receive SMP (no employer extras)

I have

• Rang tax credits - increased slightly but will not know until the award notice comes through...
  
• I have to call the council to register for single persons council tax reduction....but they are not open until Monday...!

But what else could i be entitled to as it seems unfair just because i am classed as working i do not seem to get any help or support with:

• Rent
• Council tax
• Income Support etc...??

Can anyone shed any light on it as things are really tight until i return to work!!

And also is there anything else i may be missing? I am new to this being a new mum and i have always worked so not needed to claim. I do not even know where to start or who to contact ((

I haven't got any specific advice but the direct.gov is very useful for all these kind of things, perhaps you could also get an appointment with CAB?
