i recently took a day off for my midwife appointment and my boss put it down as a holiday without me saying thats what i wanted is he allowed to do that? x

You're entitled to paid antenatal appointments definitely. He is not allowed to do that.

Print this out for him: https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parent...ilies/Pregnancyandmaternityrights/DG_10026556

As above, you are allowed paid time off to go to ante natal appointments; his argument may be you didn't need to take the whole day off if your appointment was half an hour or so. Prob the employment laws are on your side.

Good luck, hun

thanks he gave me the afternoon off as i start at 2 and my appointment wasn't until 2:45 and theres only ever one of us working at a time! x

Ah it depends when this afternoon off was mentioned though, If the afternoon off was mentioned prior to the appointment that is in effect saying your having half a days holiday. They wont pay you an afternoon off just for an appointment if you get me, So you might have to take it as a holiday. If you were to go back to work after the appointment you might of only been an hour or hour n half which the company would of had to pay but they won't pay for the full afternoon if you get me. So yes you might have to take it as a holiday .

You don't have to take it as holiday. You are entitled to paid time off for ante-natal appointments which include commuting to and from where your appointment is.

I worked in London and lived in Oxford so I used to take a day of when I had my appointments and we compromised that I would use a half day's hols to save me a long train journey to go to work for an hour or so and then a long train journey back! It was more a convenience thing for me.
