When I went to bed on the 23rd July (two days before my due date) I thought I had eaten something that didn't agree with me. I was up constantly during the night with sickness and diarrhea. In the early hours of the 24th July I realised I might be in labour as I had lower back pain! I phoned my midwife who confirmed I was in early labour and to maybe take a bath (which I was already in!) and some paracetamol.

We started timing contractions and they were about 8 minutes apart on average. At 11.30 am I was soaking in the bath but had to come out to be sick and use the toilet. Whilst on the toilet I felt a gush of waters. I phoned my midwife to tell her this and she suggested I came in at 9pm for an examination because as it was my first baby I would probably be in labour for ages.

Suddenly my contractions got unbearably sore and I was getting pains in my lower back much more frequently. My OH phoned midwife back and they said come into birthing unit now but I would probably get sent away as it was too early.

After the most agonisingly painful car journey ever I arrived at the hospital. The pool was ready for me and they gave me some gas and air. They assessed me and discovered I was actually fully dilated!

I had a low temperature so they were worried about me going in the pool but agreed to let me have an hour in the pool before transferring me to the hospital to avoid me giving birth in the ambulance!

45 minutes later I gave birth to Sophie in the pool. She was born at 2.05pm at 7 pounds 15.5 ounces :cloud9:

Placenta came out almost straight away even without an injection.

Spent about half an hour with Sophie and OH and managed to get some breastfeeding on the go.

After 2 examinations (that were worse than the birth might I add! OUCH!) I didn't need any stitches :happydance:

I didn't pee for a while after birth but as soon as she suggested a catheter my bladder resumed normal business!

Sophie is absolutely perfect in ever way. We are both very proud parents :hugs:

Yay she is beautiful! And what a perfect birth! I am very envious of your lack of stitches :haha:

Thank you. I really am lucky to have had such a great birth and a perfect baby :cloud9:

I was so glad about the stitches. The first midwife that examined me said I might need them. Was so glad when the second one said I didn't need any :haha:

Congratulations on your new arrival! Cutie! :hugs:
