Just a quick one!

Emma is exclusively breastfed, but I need her to take formula in 2 weeks when I leave her with my Mum. I've tried expressing, but it is hopeless and makes me feel like crap!
Anyway, how do I make sure she takes it? Should I try to give her a few bottles beforehand? Is there difference between the brands?

Sorry. That was a few dumb questions!

Thanks!

Not a dumb question at all! Formula feeding isn't the easy-peasy thing sometimes it's made out to be, it can be a minefield! ;)

The preferred formuae for combination feeding seem to be Aptimil, and Hipp Organic. I haven't tried Hipp since before they rebranded it, but I hated it then. Some ladies in here seem to use it now and say it's fine, so hopefully they sorted out the issues I had with it!

When I stopped BF'ing I put LO on Aptimil and she took it without any problems. Is it maybe worth you going over to see your Mum, and have her try to give LO a bottle (even if you have to go out of the room, or something?). Just to see how she gets on? Or could your partner try it? Sorry, I didn't BF for long so I don't know how that kind of experiment might affect your supply.

Hopefully someone who combination fed will be able to help you :)

Aptamil worked very well for us when mixed feeding, LO took EBM and Aptamil the same and never showed a preference for either. I'd definitely try your little one with a bottle of it before you go to your mums. Might be better if someone else other than you gives it though as you will smell of milk and that may mean LO will be reluctant to take the bottle. Also, you could try mixing the two (BM and formula) to get your LO used to the taste if they don't take to just the formula on it's own. Also, cartons will probably be easier for you to leave with your mum so she will not have to do any preparations. Good luck! :flower:
