We have just had to switch to soy as bubs was having horrendous poops and gas all day long, poor little monkey. The soy has been BRILLIANT on her tummy already, we've only done 24 hrs and she's WAY more settled, no gurgling tummy etc.

But she's been a bit constipated. I think so anyway. She was crying while trying to poop, and her poop was like plasticine! The was clearly in pain while trying to poop. That's constipation, right?

I gave her coloxyl drops and shes managed to poop since.

But has anyone else had this issue and how long before bubs adjusted? She also seemed very THIRSTY...her fontanelle was quite sunken by the end of the day which indicates dehydration. She's only 7 weeks.

mine continues to be quite constipated on soy, i use prune juice and now stepping it up to three times per day.

i tried to switch back to the cow milk formula--this is what i noticed:

  • her poop went soft again (which i liked) but she was gassy and tummy more gurgly.
  • more throw up...like a lot more...
  • i think more unsettled behaviour, naps barely 2 hours instead of 2 1/2 to 3 hours like before?

so for those reasons im going back to the soy...her whole system seemed more predictable--wake, eat, play, sleep. on the cow milk it has been wake, eat, eat again, play but fussy, sleep fussy...on and on...

maybe i switched her back to the cow formula too abruptly causing all these symptoms? all i know is when she was on it before she stopped eating it suddenly about the time she pulled off the breast, so basically was anorexic. my only saviour was the soy formula (i didn't bother with the broken down protein milk stuff--tried it once i could tell she didn't like the taste--i tasted it, so broken down reminded me of bile)

Soy does tend to constipate so you may need to give a little bit of water a day to keep her regular.
