Hi Everyone,

I have a question,

My DH got his SA results back today, Count is really good, but motility is 3%,

Is this as bad as it sounds? What can we do to improve it? I have just ordered wellman off the net, hidden all the alcohol, coffee and the bath plug.....what else shall we do??

trying for 11 months getting desperate

Hey Charlie

Excellent news on the count chick!

My DH is on wellman, Maca (herbal tablets that apparently assist motility/morphology) and also takes 1000mg of vit c.

Was that just the first SA? Did they say when he would do his second?

We are in a similar position to you - shit count (but 1 million sounds soooo high!) and 50% motility - trying for 15 months now.

Our appt with the FS said that the most important thing is morphology - did they say anything about that?

We are having IVF in 2009 with ICSI - 70% success in fertilisation, 30% success implantation. Fingers crossed :dust:

Hi

Thanks for replying that was his first with GP, next one is in 6 weeks,

so that will bring us up to 12 year and GP said he will refer us to FS then,

I think that morphology is fine, from what DH said,

Thanks for the advice, and well done on your weight loss, thats fantastic !!!!

At the GP i had my bloods done and DH had 2 SA's done. Then with the results of his second we got referred to FS.

At the FS i had an HSG and transvaginal scan done (even though my results were okay) and he got another SA. We see the consultant in Feb and should then have IVF within 6 months as there is no wait where i live.

Hope you guys get a good response from the FS and that the whole fertility stuff isn't bogging you down too much x

Unfortunately, the motility is extremely low and from my experience and what I know, I would definitely assume that you guys would need IVF/ICSI. The fact that there are a lot of sperm is great, but 97% of them won't be able to get to the egg.

How long did DH abstain for before testing? It should be exactly 3 days...no more and no less or this can dramatically affect the results.

Any type of suppliment for men, such as menevit (i've heard great results about this one in particular) should improve the sperm to a degree, but with that motility, I doubt it would make a big enough difference to produce a natural miracle.

Sorry if that was too much to digest, just wanted to give you an honest answer/opinion

What did your Dr say about the results?

Thanks for the speedy reply !!!

However I think it is a bit too soon for definate assumptions !!!

I have faith in my GP, who said that it may just be a rouge result and as an ex lab tech (in a different field i might add!) I know how easy it is to get strange results, so we are going to go for the extra vitamins no baths, limit alcohol, andthen go for another test in 6 weeks, then if that comes back the same FS it is for us. We would both really like to avoid the whole IVF/ISCI if possible, so 6 more weeks at this point doesn't seem alot and I am 27 and DH is 28 so not over the hill yet !!!

We are desperatly trying to stay upbeat and not to worry too much about it, Its a near impossible task but we will keep trying and keep trying to be upbeat about it !!!

Good luck with your next IVF and thanks again for the reply !!

:dust: to all

:spermy: hopefully they will start swimming a bit better !!!

Hey charlie don't worry about it too much....your right it could be just the lab...different factors like testing after 2 hours or if sample was cold and of course how long he abstained...i thin guidance of 4 days is too long so I agree with FJL that it should be 3 days.

At least its an excuse to get your OH to take vits and be more healthy with you!!

I would definitely suggest another SA. My husband had 16% motility. We took him off of alcohol, caffeine, added multivitamins, and eliminated bath tubs/hot tubs. His next semen analysis was 24% so I think it definitely helped. I would suggest you talk to your FS/GP about doing IUI. Those are much cheaper than IVF and come with a decent success rate. Unfortunately it did not work for us so we will be doing IVF with ICSI in March.

Best of luck!

Good luck with the next test. The motility does sound very low but hopefully it was just a bad test and the next one will show improvement. Let us know how it goes xx

Right DH left out vital piece of information, whilst telling me about his conversation with the doc regarding his sperm analysis results, it was 3% forward thrusting (ones that get you preggos) but 39% were slightly slower moving(I think they are called 2nd class or something like that), so thats looks more promising right? please reassure me !!!! I am in the 2 WW and an rapidly loosing faith that it will ever ever happen !!! and fullingexpecting the usual :bfn: ! this month AGAIN !!! bloody hell getting so pee'd off with all the waiting and the emotional rollercoaster arrrggghhh

sorry rant over :hissy:

Tomorrow will be a good day I can feel it brewing through todays misery !!!!!

I have a copy of my DH's SA results in front of me just now and yes you are right the motility is split into 4 grades. A is rapid, forward progression and B which is slow/sluggish progression. The World Health Organisation recommends >25% forward progression (A) or 50% forward progression A+B. My DH had 10% of rapid and 27% of slow progression so 37% total but his count was 600million so GP wasn't too concerned but I am not sure. Hope this helps a bit.
xx
