If I feed her less than 5oz of formula she fusses as she's still hungry. If I let her take as much as she wants she ends up spitting it up not long after she feeds. I'm so confused!

When I put her down after a feeding, there's always a big 'drool' spot beside her. She's never done this before. Yesterday she jet puked twice on me. She was fine, just opened her mouth and gaaaaaack!

We switched her formula from ready to feed to concentrated, but its still the same kind of formula.

Help, please?

I am no midwife but, In my experience its the quantity the amount, that leads to the gaaack!!! my friends daughter was just the same, she was told the amount was too much,so small and often maybe..but stick with the same formula or it will upset her digestive system. how old is she? 5oz does seem alot for a newborn.... oh and congrats she looks beautiful...x

I agree 5 oz is allot for a newborn , most of them dont know when to stop eating as they want to comfort suckle so try offering her 3 oz and a dummy ..make sure she's well burped ..
My son will do this still and hes 8 months he wants more and more all the time ..but i stop him when i see his tummy his tummy is getting full ..he will cry a tad but after hes burped and got his dummy he's fine

Hi. I agree. 5 oz is too much for newborn. How often do you feed her? My LO would take only 3oz every 3-4 hours. I attemp to give her soother but she always refuse it (which I get so frustrated). Try giving her 3 oz every 3 hours and see how it goes.

I was feeding her the smaller amounts, but she'd only go an hour to an hour and a half tops before she'd start freaking out for more, not to mention she wouldn't pull off of the bottle when she was eating. I'd take it from her and she'd still be trying to eat, then rooting at my shoulder while I was trying to burp her. Any attempt at a pacifier wouldn't work either, she'd suck for a few then get really ticked as she figured out no milk was coming out of it, LOL.

Went to her first month's doctor's appt today, and asked her about it. She said that if Claire is wanting that much, to give it to her as she's far from overweight. She figures that she probably needs it (providing that she's not throwing it up after she eats it). It's hit or miss if she spits it up or not....

As of now she takes about 5oz every 4 hours or so. Sometimes less if she's really hungry. Possibly a growth spurt?

:)

Brooke takes 5oz bottles (she will drink anything from 2oz through to the full 5oz) Tyff so dont worry its not too much imo.

How does she take the bottle? does she drink a few oz at a time or drain the whole bottlwe in pretty much one go?

I don't see it as too much either. Hannah was on 4-5 ounces by that age every 4 hours.

Is the drool spot spit up or drool? I can't remember when but Hannah's been drooling like mad for months now! She started really young.

For the spit up I'd watch it. It could be the switch of formula, even though it's the same brand could still have caused a bit of an upset tummy. As long as she's not throwing the entire bottle up though I wouldn't call the doctor. Just keep an eye on it and if she keeps spitting up for a few days maybe ask her pediatrician than

She'll suck back the entire thing in one go. I'll stop her part way through the bottle to burp her, but then she's raring to go as soon as I bring her back down for the rest of the bottle, lol.

It's mainly drool with a bit of formula in the middle of it, and it's normally about 2 - 3 hours after she's finished having her bottle. She's never spit up an entire bottle, with the exception of the other day when she jet-puked on me twice.

Thanks, ladies :hugs:

I wouldn't worry about the drool at all, some babies just have a lot more spit than others. After the first month or two I gave up and just kept a bib on Hannah at all times except nights when she's sleeping

If she jet-pukes any more than I might be concerned and talk to the doctor. But Hannah's done that a few times and by the next day she's been back to normal
