Spotting at 6 dpo - Any point in continuing progesterone?

Hi ladies,

We've been TTC #1 for over two years. Hubby and I have gone through multiple rounds of testing, and everything turns out fine EXCEPT that I have a short luteal phase (usually 9-11 days), and always start spotting around 7 or 8 DPO, which continues 2-3 days until AF starts. Also, I've had my progesterone tested at 7 dpo 4 different times, and it's always low, usually around 7-8, though sometimes as low as 5. Even on my first cycle of clomid at 50 mg, my 7 dpo progesterone was only a 7.4.

This cycle I tried clomid (100 mg), followed by progesterone pills (100 mg, once a day) once ovulation was confirmed. Yesterday evening, at 6dpo, I noticed some twinge-y cramps and got excited it might be implantation cramping - but then I used the bathroom and noticed brown spotting when I wiped. It seems the spotting has started even earlier this month, even though I was on both clomid and progesterone. This morning, the amount of brown discharge has increased.

I'm pretty much heartbroken. I tried so hard not to get my hopes up for this cycle, but it happened anyway.

Is there even any point in me continuing to take the progesterone pills for the next 8 days like I was supposed to? I feel like my body's already letting me know it failed once again, so I kinda just want to get this cycle over and done with.

Any thoughts or experience would be appreciated!

The progesterone supps never worked to keep af away for me either. They finally put me on pio shots (progesterone in oil), and I wouldn't spot a single drop until stopping them. Might be worth looking into.

Im using natural.progesterone last cycle spotting started 6dpo this cycle im on 8dpo no cramping no achey boobs no spotting its loads better so maybe it doesnt work 1st cycle x

I am currently 5 weeks pregnant and had spotting 5dpt until 7dpt

100mg of progesterone is very low I am on 6oomg are you using suppositories as these are supposed to work better.

Hi hun, your story sounds a lot like mine, short luteal phase and low progesterone. Have you had your prolactin level checked? I had high prolactin which caused a weaker ovulation and low progesterone, but I went on meds to lower my prolactin. I still had a short luteal phase (but it was longer than it had been) so I went on clomid. I also took 100mg vitamin B6 and a vitamin B complex which also helps extend your luteal phase. I eventually got pregnant and it was a cycle i hadn’t taken clomid. I really think the b vitamin helped. I hope you find your answers. I am now ltttc #2 with a short luteal phase of 8 days, so I’m back on the vitamins and I’ve just started my prolactin lowering medication as well. Im sending hugs as I know how disheartening it is to have a short luteal phase.
