Spotting or period?

My cycle was set to arrive on May 23rd, and I always get my cycle first thing in the morning, like clockwork. However, this time I got a very light pink spot when I wiped.

Let me fill you in on the details so maybe I can be helped:

Note: I had been using fertility friend just recently but they it seemed like they had my period all screwed up and had me getting it on different days. I use other apps on my phone and they time my cycle perfectly when it comes to AF arriving.

the first day of my last cycle was April 27th and AF usually hangs around for 10 days.

My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex multiple times on May 8th.

My app said that I was due to Ovulate May 10th (not sure if that was the exact day)

I had faint spotting one time and it was quick on May 18th

Had unprotected sex again on May 21st and 22nd

On Monday May 23rd I was due to get AF and instead of the morning getting it, I got it late and night and had light pink spotting.

May 24-present I have continued to have spotting/light bleeding. The color is mostly light pink, but sometimes can be pink/brown and a little bit red. The color varies as does the amount.

My BBT has been all over the place. Ill see if I can bring it up again and post it on here.

Is this a period or something else?

Looks like AF. You would have needed to have sex before ovulation. 11-12 days late wouldn't catch the egg. Looking at your chart you look annov this cycle, there were only 2 temps above where a coverline should have been (coverlines are .1 degrees higher than your highest temp pre-o, and you need to have at least 6 low temps before a coverline is valid).

The other option is that you are still waiting to O, although with that long of spotting/light bleeding I would assume AF. Do you temp vaginally or orally? How long have you been temping? Are your cycles fairly regular? FF is only good at guessing extremely regular periods. Mine can range anywhere from 28-35 days, so FF is wrong most of the time. The longer you temp though, the more accurate it gets.

Thank you for your reply! My cycles are anywhere from 27 to 30 days. I didn't start charting till 2-3 days after O, and the app I use to determine my O was suppose to be on the 10th and I had sex on the 8th. I didn't know anything about BBT till after the deed was done. I had spotting at 9 DPO (or going off what the app said my O was) my cycles start light and end heavy, but never like this. I also never spot before a period. My AF is heavier than this, and gets on the pad. This bleeding isn't even getting on the pad and tonight it's barely there. So that's definitely not like me. I'm very in tuned to my AF and its like clockwork when it comes as far as what happens and when.

The FF app has my days all mixed up, I feel like quitting that app all together lol. I don't know what my BBT was before I started chatting, which was after the O predicted by another app. Sorry if I'm confusing you. I appreciate you taking the time to help

The app wouldn't be able to confirm your O unless you charted from the day your period stopped. Temperatures are supposed to be high after you ovulate, from the progesterone in your system. Your temps are actually looking like they're on the low side (except those two spikes) which would lead me to believe you haven't O'd yet. The reason your period could be lighter is because there wasn't enough estrogen and lutenizing hormone in your system to build up your lining. If you look at the image I put up from one of my previous cycles, you can have a look at how your temperatures are supposed to act pre and post ovulation. The green and red on the bottom row of the charts are FF's predictions of when I am set to ovulate and when I am supposed to get AF, but the vertical red line shows I ovulated on a different day due to my temps, and I got AF a day late.

If you are concerned about the light bleeding though, the only way to know if you are or aren't pregnant would be to take a test. If you did O on the 10th like the app suggests, then you are late . The days leading up to ovulation can vary cycle to cycle, but the days after ovulation, which is called your Luteal phase or LP, is supposed to be anywhere between 12-16 days.

In regards to FF it's predictions get better the longer you use the app, because it learns your cycles and temp patterns. It's not going to be able to tell you anything the first month because it doesn't know your temp patterns. For many women on this site it's used more for recording than predicting, because only your temperatures can tell you when you O.

Thanks girl for the reply and taking the time to explain things. My body temp is actually really low (96.7 in my every day norm...I know I sound like a vampire) I have always had a really low body temp. I will keep the FF app and continue to enter my temp everyday.

Woke up this morning and it's even lighter then yesterday. My FX that it is early pregnancy and my body is just being funky. I always joke with others about myself because I have been given all these rare diagnosis (rate brain tumor, my body produces muscles that aren't suppose to exist on the human body, and I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) so to have this weird stuff happening that does not happen to me makes me laugh but at the same time cry.

This is our first try with TTC. I heard the average time it takes is 3-6 months. I'm still holding onto hope. I'm going to email my doctor to get a lab test done. Thank you so much for all the info and explaining it so well. I'm definitely taking in that information and holding onto hope too (mental war and ping pong LOL)
