hey girlie's sorry haven't been around last 2 days and haven't finished the list, iv been busy with the plans for our 2 daughters christening. how is everyone and there little cuties???

im having probs with breastfeeding at the moment well not so much the feeding itself its more about deciding weather to carry on with it or not heres why.....

since my c-section iv had high blood pressure, well anyway last Tuesday it was higher than usual so my doc asked me to come bk Friday to check it again and if its still high then i need meds to bring it down....so we spoke about my BF and how meds will effect my milk and baby as the meds will concentrate in my milk and she would be receiving them through it, he told me that no matter wat med he gave me for it it will most defiantly go into my milk and he also said that they PROBABLY wont effect little one....well probably isnt good enough for me to be honest i dont want her ingesting anything meds wise unless she is sick herself and has had them prescribed for her by a doc.
so this left me with no other choice but to stop breastfeeding :sad2: so since Wednesaday she has been on formula and i have been in agony with engorgement :( i did express the milk to relive the pressure but only like 2 times in last 2 days, she takes to the bottle fine and has no probs with the change in taste of milk and if im totally honest about it she is alot more settled with formula (but id rather still be breastfeeding and having her unsettled IYKWIM)
thing is today my milk is near enough non existent and i never expected it to drop so fast which has left me now trying to bring my supply back up so that i can pump and dump (express then discard it) as i would like to still be able to breastfeed her again once off the meds, iv pumped today and only got 1oz and that was from both boobs so half and ounce from each when 3 days ago i could get 6oz from each breast sometimes more :( so iv been reading loads about re-lactation and am going to give it a firm trying so here i am home for as much as i can to just sit and pump at reg intervals, just cant believe this is all happening wen it was going so well, her latch was always first time, and she was very efficient at emptying the breast she seemed to really love it, just seems like all that is going to waste now, well hopefully i wont be on meds longer than a month and that my supply returns to normal

Hiya! I've had on and off problems with low supply since my LO was born. I take Fenugreek and Milk thistle along with Domperidone(prescribed by my GP). My supply does seem improved so may be worth you giving one or all of them a go :hugs:

I've heard your supply doesn't stabilise until 6 weeks or so Patsy so if you keep pumping it should re-establish  xxx

I hope you can re-establish Patsy - as for the meds, I had no choice but to take them due to preeclampsia as my blood pressure was so high, even after I had the section and did not come down as quickly as expected. I was on A LOT of medication and was BFing (and still am)

I was on meds for 8 weeks post-section and he is almost 12 weeks and I've noticed no adverse effects (no difference since stopping meds either)

I was on 200mg Labetalol, 3 times a day and 20mg Nifidepine twice daily. My BP was so high i had to stay in hospital for a fortnight. It was 200/115 at its highest. I'm normally between 110/60 - 120/70

FWIW the staff at hospital were more bothered about me taking ibuprofen than BP medication with regard to bfing.

I've also recently read that beetroot juice can massively reduce high blood pressure. mine is normal now

xx

i was on some meds in the hospital as well, most of them can be taken while breastfeeding,
only a tiiiiiny amount comes into the milk supply, but it's too little to have any effect on baby.

a "trick" for high blood pressure that everyone here swears by (esp old ppl who suffer from it),
is to eat 3 little pickles a day...
nobody knows why it helps, but it does help with their bloodpressure, very weird

we're doing pretty good over here, we don't manage the household but whatever,
she gets fed, changed, washed, always clean clothes and plenty of love,
i don't care that the layer of dust is a bit thicker than it should be and that i have baby socks in every possible place and... :p

she has some issues with cramps every now and then, but we have homeopathic drops for that and they help ALOT! just a phase they have to get through i suppose... how long does this phase last?

thank u for the encouragement hunny, after reading ur post i have done research into how the meds effect LO and your right it shouldnt have any ill effects on her at all  so im defo going to start BF her again YAY iv missed it so much these last few days :(

also after much expressing at reg intervals im now back upto getting 4 oz+ (thats from both boobs though) got feeling that next few days it will just become even better with her nursing aswell as me pumping between feeds :happydance:

also for anyone who pumps using electric pump (mine is medela swing) do u find that after pumping u can hand express much more milk>>> iv found the pump only brings out a good amount when the milk is fast but once the flow slows down it doesnt bring out anything at all but if i hand express i get at least another ounce out of each???? i do actually think hand expressing is much better but it does take forever.
