Staring Clomid next week to help ovulate, any advice?

Hi there,
Ive been put on 50mg Clomid and due to start taking next week. My periods are kinda regular but practically non existant when it arrives, due to me having a mc in March the consultant thinks my tubes are ok and Clomid is the best option to kickstart ovulation.
I was wondering if anyone has had any success with this drug? or any advice?

Hi em.

I have taken clomid in the past. I did ovulate on my own, but we used clomid in conjunction with IUI for unexplained infertility.

I would suggest that you have ultrasound monitoring while undergoing treatment. Clomid thinned my lining which would have made implantation difficult or impossible. It was easily treated with estrace, but I never would have know if I hadn't had the ultrasound.

Hi Em, I have had success boosting my lining (while on clomid) by using large doses of L-Arginine. I did a fair bit of research - including in medical journals online - there are a few studies where they have done the same and had success in terms of the pregnancy rate.

So I take 4g a day (4 x *massive* 1000mg tablets!) all through the cycle... They are hard to take but yeah I had a scan at CD14 yesterday and the doc was totally surprised at how good my lining was.

DO do some research for yourself though - make sure there are no risk factors for your particular circumstance and med history etc. Especially if youre considering taking a large dose.

No side effects for me at all. The ladies in a couple of the studies were taking 16g a day (!) so 4g is not so much in comparison I guess.

Other than that I'd suggest a fertility naturopath maybe - ? (with that express purpose)

I have some L-Arginine in my cabinet but I stopped taking it for some reason. Off to research if it increases estrogen/aggravates endometriosis before I take it to help with lining (Clomid cd5-9). Thanks for the tip.

Hi Ladies,

Many thanks for the advice, even though i have two grown up children (20 and 17) they seemed to just happen, and now after trying for a baby for over 18months and starting down the fertility root i have realised just how clueless i am when it comes to understanding just what goes on in my body so i'm learning what i can (37yrs old and back at school ha).

I was given a prescription for clomid, by my fertiity specialist ( to take after this cycle) and she didn't say a damn thing about , lining thinning out.... just said it may cause blindness...but it never hppens. i think she is more interested in invirto ( $$$$$$$$) then helping me. And didn't mention cycle monitoring to check lining..( only done during IUI i guess.)
I have said before......ladies on here have more informtion then most specialists..LOL thank goodness.
I may pm you googly if i get confused during my gogle searches...LOL

Hi ladies, well af was 6 days late then none existant (can't even call it spotting, more of a spot!! ha), had killer pains for the last two weeks and boobs like watermelons then started the clomid (my consultant said that any sign of anything even spotting i'd to call it day one and start the clomid the following day - days 2-6) anyway, i took a pill Sunday night and again Monday and for some mental reason i think it made me bleed? i have had the heaviest bleed of my life over the last few days - i darent even go to zumba coz i thought i'd expolode all over the dancefloor!! (bleed stopped today - Thursday) I dont have a proper period, just spotting and it's been that way for a few years now so as i'm sure you can imagine it has been a shock to say the least!. Anyway (sorry for the rambling) but i just wanted to ask if anyone has had a similar experience on clomid and this is what i can expect for the next couple of months on it? if so i might have to start wearing a nappy ha!!
p.s i have my first tracking scan on Monday)
