Last Sunday I checked my blood pressure at home and it was very high (155/95) so I went to the hospital. They monitored me, checked my urine, did blood tests, and had my blood pressure checked every 10 minutes for over an hour. It eventually went down to 120/77 and everything looked perfect so I was sent home.

Fast forward to Friday, and my blood pressure at my prenatal appointment was 155/100! They ran labs again (haven't gotten the blood test results back yet) and had me do a non-stress test. Non stress test came back fine, my urine was clear. I have no other symptoms at all. I haven't even swelled a bit this whole pregnancy or anything like that.

I was put on Labetalol (I think that's how you spell it) until I deliver (which shouldn't be long, since I am 40 weeks now).

I have another prenatal appointment on Tuesday, with another non-stress test. If I show any signs of pre-eclampsia I'll be booked for a c-section immediately.

I guess I'm just worried. My blood pressure started showing signs of being higher at 37 weeks (wasn't this high though... under 140/90) ... what if baby is too small or unhealthy because of undiagnosed gestational hypertension??? Now I'm worried!!

It seems like it was hard to diagnose because my blood pressure goes up and down and up and down dramatically! Sometimes it's completely normal!

Apparently 140/90 is acceptable in pregnancy (although on the higher side). I'm almost 16 weeks into my 2nd pregnancy and started Labetalol at about 12 weeks. Labetalol is a beta blocker and is supposed to slow your heart rate and blood flow a bit which in turn is supposed to decrease your blood pressure. It brought my blood pressure down a tiny bit but not much... I went from 158/94 to 146/84. I would think that they would've been able to catch it already if the baby wasn't growing properly or was unhealthy due to undiagnosed hypertension. You are almost at the finish line so I would try not to worry too much (I worry about everything little thing all time so I know it must be hard for you). I would keep monitoring your blood pressure at home and try to be relaxed and sitting down prior to doing it. I wish you the best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy and pray that everything turns out okay :hugs:.

I can't believe u weren't induced right then and there! U r already full term I don't see why they would risk it? When I was pregnant with dd my Bp was never really high, just higher than my norm. Urine always clear, etc no indicators. Well after delivery at 38 weeks I developed hellp and almost had an pulmonary embolism due to fluid in lungs. Good luck I hope all turns out well.

I'll find out tomorrow if they want to induce, we'll see what happens.

I have been on the same medication since 7 weeks! My BP was running 156/106 nothing lower than 140/98. Had my 17 week scan and baby is actually measuring bigger, and super healthy! Everything looks great on him! Im being sent to cardiologist next week as im only 24 130lbs and hypertensive and tachycardia not very common in my age! So I would say being 40 weeks your baby will be fine:)

Everything ended up being absolutely perfect! I did have to be induced because it turned from hypertension at the end to pre-eclampsia, but everything went superb and she was super healthy! So yes, all my worrying was for nothing! ;)
