OK, So, the Government and NHS/Midwife advice on steralising is that you wait until baby is hungry, then freshly steralise a bottle, boil the kettle, leave the water half an hour to cool and then make up the bottle, cool and feed.

There are also a lot if people out there however that steralise 6 bottles at a time, add boiled water, keep in the fridge and warm and use when needed. The issue with that being that the powers that be say the water never gets hot enough to kill the bacteria in the powdered milk and therefore carries a risk to baby of gastroenteritis.

Do my question is this ... IF there was a system available that steralised a bottle, heated the milk to the desired temp to kill any nasties and remove that risk and then cool the bottle to be able to drink ALL within 15mins ... and it wasn't a stupid price, would you buy it?

I think things are getting there. Sterilisers now can keep bottles sterile for 24 hours if left IN steriliser (take a bottle out at a time when required) I use avent three in one steam sterilizer, it's fantastic.

Now there is the Tommee Tippee perfect prep machine. I personally use it and think it's an excellent idea. It's a fresh bottle made up each time (as per NHS advice) but without the faff of boiling kettles, or any waiting etc. It's done in seconds and is fresh and at the correct temp. It also filters the water. If you haven't seen it, it's worth reading up on, it's a good machine.

to add to the above, price is probably the main gripe for some people. The perfect prep machine is at £99.99 in most places but quite a lot of us grabbed recent promotions at closer to the 60 mark. plus if you dont look around, steam sterilisers can cost a lot. i paid £30 but see it around a lot at closer to 60!

Why not add the powdered milk to the recently boiled water to kill any nasties then quick cool by steeping in cold water then put in the fridge to be warmed up later when required? I used to do this with all the bottles in the morning

I understand and apreciate there are loads of ways of doing it for whatever suits:thumbup:. Just with him mentioning NHS guidlines/pack instructions, technically that's not following the instructions for a 'fresh' bottle I guess so just explaning. I bought the machine as a halfway point. I can't stand the thought of boiling a kettle "in advance" all the time to make fresh feeds, I couldn't do it, he doesn't have set routines and has absolutely no patience! But also, I was personally dubious of making up feeds for later and that's just a personal choice.,..not just to do with safety (I do think it's pretty safe) but just incase I didn't get the time to do it properly etc. my mum did them for me when I was a baby and it didn't do me any harm :) but I was happier with the machine I guess with it being fresh and incredibly quick..a bottle is done in the time it would take to heat one anyway. Plus even if you went to absolutely obsessive point and sterilised right before every feed, the steriliser takes 6 minutes from start to finish.

I'll need to have a look at that tommee tippee perfect prep. Sounds good

Yes this is basically the perfect prep machine and I love it! As a FTM who was hoping to breast feed I had issues and came home from hospital without a clue about making up bottles. I mean is it realistic to wait 30 mins for the water to cool whilst your hungry baby is screaming? No! This is why the perfect prep works for us 2 mins max and one happy baby :)

Similar! Breast fed for 6 weeks exclusivley, then a further 2 weeks a bit of both, then formula only. All unexpected and for a variety of very stressful reasons so I had no idea either about formula ...didn't register on my plans. It's a god send the perfect prep machine it really is! I'm sure people are sick of seeing me on threads about it. Along with premade/liquid formula in cartons for when out and about, easy feeding all round!

Perfect prep all the way!

If anyone sees it anywhere on offer again can they PLEASE post new thread in the forum! Waited too long last time and price had gone back up by the time I went to buy it 😡

There is a website where you can get an email when an item you want hits a certain price on amazon. Here is the link:

https://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/

We've set it up for a jumperoo as this seems to go up and down in price all the time. Ill keep my eye out too and let you know but I'd also recommend that website having used it

I have just had my Tommee Tippee perfect prep delivered. Looking forward to using it when baby arrives. Thanks for the recommendation. We bought ours from toys r us online. No discount unfortunately but we thought it looked worth the money to make your our life easier
