Has anyone Ben sterilised during the procedure?

I'm going to ask, this was a very much (happily tho) accident and I suffer severe pre eclampsia resulting in preemies nd really don't want to risk any more babies and would prefer to have it done during my section.

I doubt they'll doit if I end up with another emergency section but if I last to 37/38 weeks hope they can do it electively.

Anyone been sterilised during a section? X

I haven't yet experienced this, but will be sterilised during my section next Thursday. I'm also interested to hear about other experiences ... but if no-one replies, I can let you know how it all goes once I'm out of hospital in a week or so!

I discussed having my ovaries removed with my doctor, for another reason. I don't know how this matches up to sterilization, but my doctor said he would rather not do it at the time of c section, but at another time, through keyhole surgery, since we have so much extra blood down there during pregnancy he said that any extra surgery increased the risk of secondary haemorridge. Which I didn't like the sound of. Maybe it is totally diff to sterilization though?

My doc said the same about sterilization... due to all the extra blood around there...

But also most importantly. Because everhthing is so swollen down there they have a much higher risk of the procedure not taking and u end up getting pregnant after anyway

Interesting. Sterilization during, at least a scheduled csection, is an option where I am from. I haven't heard of any issues doing it at the same time unless it is an emergency which would be a different story I'm sure. I plan on having it done once we have our second baby (trying this summer) as we only want two.

My consultant said there were no risks at all. He said it would only add an extra five minutes to the op and recovery would be exactly the same.
(Bit worried now after reading the above)

I will ask about the risks again on Thursday morning before my section and decide then.

Thank you all for your input I have midwife today so gonna ask if its an option xx

I'm a student midwife and have observed many planned sections where women have opted to be sterilised at the same time and it has literally taken 5 mins more to do. It is not something that would be done in an emergency section though, the previous posters about swelling etc and it not being safe maybe when a woman has already began to labour whereas in a planned section it is fine, in the UK that is x

I just had a c section december 26th along with getting my tubes tied/ sterilization. It was only an extra 5-10 minutes and it was quick. For now, I haven't had any side effects or anything go wrong. I surely don't want to be the rare few that still get pregnant though.

I have asked for sterilisation during my c-section and I have to speak to obstetrician on 9th April. The midwife did say one clip per tube might not be as effective due to swelling etc but the surgeon may put two clips on either side to increase effectiveness. I need to think about this as I have already had one ectopic and I really don't want an ineffective tubal clip to cause another :-(

They offered to tie my tubes in my upcoming planned CS. I have opted not to because I'm not sure if we are done having babies yet. I do have a few friends who have had it done and had no problems from it. If its something your sure about, its much easier to do it as part of the CS then at another time.

I had a section 4 weeks ago and was sterilised at the same time. The op didn't seem to take much longer than my previous two sections and I've seen no difference in the recovery.

Iv signed the papers to be sterilized during my planned section next month.

I was sterilised during my section of my DS3 the procedure didn't take long I even heard the snip as surgeon said "you sure"
The healing was no different
Must say the feeling now has liberated us as we now know we are safe x

If I end up with a c-sec then I'm definitely tempted because of this. Hubby and I are not good at contraception (hence baby number 3 lol) - we've always said 3 babies so now we're done, finding an effective long term solution is the key. I'm not 100% still, and may not have a c-sec in which case I'll have to wait and see.
