This may sound terrible, but I really don't have a clue about bottle feeding!
I have a microwave steriliser, but as soon as I remove the lid the bottles I am not using become un-sterile!
How do I keep my bottles fresh? I am going to be using a ready made milk served at room temp!
Sorry if I sound like a terrible mother :(

Don't be silly, you don't sound like a terrible mother!! I had no idea either and it was totally a case of trial and error. I was making up the bottles totally wrong for the first week, but LO seems fine so its not the end of the world.

I am not sure how long bottles stay sterrile for in the sterilser. What I do is sterilise the bottles in the microwave, straight away add cooled boiled water and the milk powder and pop straight in the fridge. When I am ready to use I just take from the fridge and warm slightly in my bottle warmer.

At first I was leaving the water out at room temp and when she was hungry adding the powder and feeding her but I read that room temp water does not kill any bacteria in the powder so have changed my routine.

Are you using the ready made milk cartons? I will warn you that does get expensive...lol! I was using these for a bit but I went through so many. Now I just use them for trips out. There is more than one feed per carton so once opened they can be stored in the fridge for 24 hours.

Hope this helps a little x I was so clueless at first!!

If you want a bottle on hand ready sterilised, you're prob best using a cold water steriliser with Milton (or such like) You put the water and solution in and it stays sterile for 24 hours regardless of how many bottles you take out or put in. Each bottle must be in the solution for a min of 15 mins otherwise there are no other restrictions :)

Yeah, if you're definately going to use ready made milk I would use a cold water sterilser, you can take things out and put new things in for 24 hours and it keeps them sterile.

This is probably the best thing to do for the first 4 weeks (I know a lot of MW's recommend ready made for 4 weeks) as it eliminates the risk of you making up the powder wrong but it is expensive. I think it would cost about £20 a week now if Brady had ready made all day every day.

My doc had Carter on ready made for the first month i switched him at 3 weeks it was costing us about 100 dollars a week it was insane. Now i just make up the bottles and put them in the fridge

There is such a thing as over sterile and the instructions on each steriliser is different! Do 'bugs' know that you are using that particular steriliser or could you say to them you are using a brand that says bottles will stay sterile for longer?

Personally, I think that if the bottle has been washed, rinsed and sterilised then it will be fine for 24 hours in the steriliser whether I open it or not.

I make up bottles of cooled boiled water and add powder as needed, that is my choice after looking up 'the risks' associated with not making up fresh feeds as the guidelines tell you.

I did this for my boys and they are both still here.
