Leo will be 8 months next week and I was just wondering do I HAVE to sterilise his bottles still? I always do sterilise them but say I havent managed to get any ready and hes ready for a bottle like NOW can I just wash one and use it without sterilising if its an emergency lol. Im rambling im so tired :dohh:

thanks :) x

im not there yet, but i think your ment to sterilize anything that has milk in till there a year old. Someone who knows more should be along soon lol

I would defo sterilize all his bottles until he is 1 hunnie, bacteria breeds so much from milk so its better to be safe

The only way I keep up is I have A LOT of bottles.

I am now just washing the bottles in the dishwasher really hot and sterilizing the nipples though.

I think I will sterilise the teats beyond one if she is still using a bottle. The bottles though I think will just be washed. BUT I'd def go to at least 1. Thats just me though im fanatical.

Is it the milk that makes sterilising important then? I've always wondered what point there is in sterilising once the baby is crawling around and putting everything into their mouths! Not anywhere near that stage yet though.
But yeah, like Tasha, I think having loads of bottles is the way forward!

good thread! I understand the need to kill bacteria from milk... but i will probably put them in dish washer once she starts crawling... it gets so hot in there it'll kill any bacteria! And continue that until she's off bottles.

milk is a breeding ground for bacteria which is why a lot of people say to go ahead and sterilize until baby is off the bottle. We did sterilize until Hannah changed over to cows milk (and on to sippy cups)

I have 12 bottles that we use BTW lol and I find that is good enough :) LOL. I hate sterilizing though so I find I always procrastinated and ended up having like 10 to do at a time :shy:

I have 7 bottles...I don't mind sterilising...I just HATE washing them up! But I am very lazy.

Yes, its advised to steralise bottles till LO is 1. I only steralise the bottles and dummies now.

We have 8 large and 2 small bottles! I hate washing them too..

Ok thanks everyone :) I only have 4 bottles now so I HAVE to keep up with the washing and sterilising everyday x

Hmm the "rules" so to speak are after 6 months you don't have to sterilise.... can't find this on a quick search now typical, but a HV in a class pointed this out the other day too, personal choice if you do or not
