When do you stop sterlising their bottles?

I heard that once they are 1 year old!

i think guidelines reccomend a year but i plan to stop once luisa is crawling about and putting stuff in her mouth :dohh:

i do occassionaly if we are out say at MIL and i get caught short just wash the bottle throughly and pop the teat in a bowl of boiling water for few mins.. only happened twice and we now have a cold water travel one :)

both Joani and Elinor s stuff was sterilized up until they were a yr. I stopped then.
I fully plan on doing the same with this baby
:hugs:

I sterilised up to 1 year but you're right once they're on the floor eating dirt it does make you wonder why we're so stringent

I haven't stopped yet but will at a year, actually will probably just throw bottles out all together at a year as she only has one a day anyways and the rest is in sippy cups

Really not sure why I do it though as she's eaten cat food, and dirt, and licked a few rocks, and likes to suck on the floor.............I really do watch her  She's just quick

:rofl::rofl: she sounds like a handful!

uh huh  And you lot think I'm going to have another one :nope:

at least another one would mean they would keep each other amused!

ya vickie... 2 is actually alot easier then you think...

I havent sterilized anything for quite awhile... They go in the dishwasher about every other day... and just get washed otherwise... like the others said, she is on the flood constantly putting lots of other stuff in her mouth.

I stopped about a week ago. So 7.5 months. My sterilizer electrocuted me so I figured it was a good time to stop.

Milk things should be steralized until the baby is a year old. Weaning bits and cups for water don't need to be sterilzed after 6 months. Milk is a real breeding ground for bacteria, which is why there is a different rule.

You haven't met Hannah Ryder  Ask Tyff and Natalie

Thanks girls i was wondering, Amelia constantly has something in her mouth, she oftens steals other babies toys at play group and eats them too, so sterilising does seem a little pointless, but hubby insists!

Vickie- it does sound like you have a right handful, cat food and rocks! At least she has a healthy diet?!

yep i believe a year too, but like many things, its personal preference, i think i will stop sterilizing everything around a year (i'm quite obsessed with it ) but will continue sterilising her milk bottles until she stops having them, as milk breeds germs well iykwim! x

my eldest was the cat food muncher-and she is now a healthy 17year old :rofl:

i stopped sterilizing when mine were crawling and picking stuff up and putting them in their mouths. just washed everything well in hot washing up water never had a problem

I don't think i'll stop steralising Harry's bottles, but i'm not so neurotic about his dummies and toys for some reason. He's starting nursery on Monday, and has been having induction sessions yesterday and today and he's playing with the toys the other babies have had in their mouths etc, and then putting them in his mouth.... I don't see the point in steralising everything when he's doing that!

i was told 9months with eldest, 1yr with lil man. BUT i stopped when they started moving about on floor as i didnt see the point as they were putting stuff in mouth etc and no matter how many times a day i hoovered iwasnt going to get every bit of dirt up.

Stupid question but if you DONT sterilise bottles would it give them sore tummies because of any bacteria? I always do it just never really thought about why lol.
