sorry ftm, its been a struggle to get LO to take her formula lately ( I blame teething) should I not be giving her her bowl of rice cereal/banana? Wouldnt that make her have even less formula???

may even be a dumb question...

Have you started weaning her already ? By eating goods yes that will fill her up buy that's the point of food so they don't have as much formula, I would say choose a mid morning, afternoon or lunch bottle to stop or reduce and replace with food, it may be you do part milk part food to start with - look up baby led weaning

You could always try the milk in a sippy cup

I think you'll get more help if you list the amount of formula and food she's taking now and the times?

We bf, but he didn't drop his feeds in the beginning as he ate very little, we dropped a feed when he went to 2 naps at around 6.5-7 month. If she's eating well, I would be inclined to follow her lead and let her have the solid.

Milk is the most important thing before a year old, the point of food is absolutely not so they have less formula.

OP as your LO is only 6 months it's likely that you'll still be in the 'first tastes' stages anyway, I really wouldn't worry about food intake. Solids can be forgotten about for a day or 2, or atleast given in smaller amounts, until you're happy with how much milk she's having. As she gets the hang of it and starts eating more it is not unusual for them to drop bottles but that's not usually until around 9 months or so and even then many don't drop a single milk feed until they're over a year old! x

Offer her milk first and then food later. That will make sure she always fills up on formula (which she needs more than solids at the moment) first and then food is just for fun and tasting. She may decrease how much milk she wants in time, but that's okay. If she's feeling poorly with teething, she may not want much in the way of solids anyway. We did BLW, but my daughter didn't decrease the amount of milk she wanted until about 8 months.

This is so confusing, my baby has now moved to 75th centile started 25th, he was born at 7lb and at 7 months hes 19lb, he was on 32 oz of milk prev and hv is telling me to give 3 meals a day and give food first them milk so he drops his bottle,

and every advise on here is the opposite, im going out my mind not knowing what i should be doing,

this is what im doing at the moment

breakfast, 6.30 half weetabix and formula then remainder of 7oz bottle
he had carrot and apple at about 10ish
then at 12 he had dinner which was beef and sweet potato the size of a small baby jar but home made
then 2pm he had 7 oz
4pm he had tea which was avocado and apple with a slice of wholemeal bread
and 6.30 7 oz

should i be increasing solids to decrease the milk
or decreasing solids to increase the milk i dont want him having any more shoots up the graph

I'd say he's having enough of both (from what I've read) I'm following the advice that they need 500-600ml a day while weaning until closer to a year when they start having cows milk etc, your LO is having 596ml and 3 meals and a snack. It's working for you that way so carry on. Obviously as their food intake increases they might drop some milk, but even if he eventually dropped his middle bottle and upped the other 2 to 8oz he'd still be having just a little under 500ml. Don't stress, your doing fine :) x

That does sound like a lot of food, he's obviously taken to weaning well! Lol. I agree with the above though :) x
