My LO still goes through stages of soiling her pants. She tells me she can't feel it happening. She can tell when she needs a big poo, but these very small amounts seem to sneak out without her knowing and she doesn't even seem to notice the feeling of it in her pants.

I don't know if its normal for her age, a symptom of something like constipation, stubbornness (is she lying when she says she doesn't know it has happened) or what.

Anyone have any advice/similar stories?

My dd did this until almost 5 yrs when I discussed it with her dr. She described exactly what you do, she couldn't feel it, didn't feel like she needed to go etc. The dr diagnosed "overflow diarrhoea". Basically she was constipated. Her bowel was stretching around the hard stool & allowing watery stool from above to escape. That's why she couldn't feel it.

She was put on laxido twice a day (can't remember the number of sachets) and then we reduced it over some months. She got into more regular habits & is now off the laxido. We've managed to maintain the regular habit with prunes at breakfast and lots of water throughout the day. She continues to eat lots of fruit & veg, but she's always done that. I do still have to remind her to go every day.

No idea if this is happening to your lo, but our story has similar elements. Maybe check with your Gp if it's consistent? Do you think she might be constipated? Does she have good, regular habits?

(The delights of parenthood eh??)

Thanks, I wondered if it was that kind of thing. She eats loads of fruit and veg and actually loves prunes at the moment but I know she doesn't drink enough during the day. It's hard to make her drink espescially at school. They have water bottles in class and they can drink whenever they want buy my DD just doesn't. She can go all morning till lunch without drinking even if I make her a drink and put it right by her and remind her about it she just either takes tiny sips or says she doesn't want it. In the evening though she'll drink 2-3 cups with her supper and sip water throughout story time! One reason I think she is still in pull-ups at night is because she drinks so much late in the evening.

I'm not too sure how often she does a poo now as trying to get her to tell me/remember what has happened at school is like getting blood from a stone!
