due to complications in labour my baby was born via emergency c section. Surgeon advised there was thick mec and made decision to put him straight on antibiotics. At 36 hours he had two fits and was taken to nicu where they discovered he was infected with group b strep. They weren't convinced this caused fits and we are awaiting an MRI as they suspect a possible stroke. When the 7 day course of antibiotics finished they allowed us to take him home. While in hospital I was so focused on learning about strokes on babies from doctors that I didn't ask about the infection and now I'm terrified about what long term affects it could have had. Anyone with any experience of with strep b or strokes? Any advice greatly appreciated, so worried x

Hi, I hope your little one is doing well.
I wrote a long reply that got lost in a re-log in .....aaahhhh!!!
My little boy is nearly 2 but was born at 35 weeks and developed a strep B infection. He responded well to the antibiotics and I wasn't given any impression that it was at all relevent to him once he was well apart from the fact that he would always carry it. As you know you get bombarded with information and you can only think through so much of it and ask so many questions, I found your thread because I would like to know if I should expect any long term health effects, Ben does have some developmental delay that I always assume is from being premature but I would like to know more about the strep B to make sure I'm not blinded by his prematurity. That being said he is generally a lively, well little boy.
I hope this gives you some reassurance, my original post was much better! I am very keen to learn more about strep B infections, I really hope your little one is getting better, no mum ever forgets a moment of the trauma you feel from a poorly baby.
best wishes
Abi
