Found ourselves in a bit of a hard situation this month, my partner's pay has been docked severely (out of order) and we are dealing with it but unfortunately it wont be in time to pay our rent and we dont have enough. we dont have enough for just rent let alone food and the other bills! I am wondering if we can ring our landlord up and see if he would take some money from us and the rest out of our deposit? It really is dire as i cant afford any food or bills is this possible? Thank you x

Deposits are supposed to kept with a neutral deposit scheme so your LL shouldn't have access to it.
If you are willing to speak to your LL perhaps ask if you could pay half (or what you can afford) and spread the cost of the other half over the next few months? Most LL's will be happy as long as you are keeping them informed.

Thankyou.. i will ask the question. Do you think this would effect our credit rating though? I wouldn't want to black mark ourselves x

i think it very much depends on the time of landlord you are with, are you private renting or through an estate agent?? i hope your landlord is understanding xxx

It's private tenancy I hope so too! He seems nice enough x

If it's a private LL I think it's highly doubtful it would affect your credit rating as they would have to access the different credit agencies and register your debt. Even if he was able or bothered enough to do that it would only show that you were 1 payment behind - anyone looking at your score wouldn't worry about that as it could be just due to a payment delayed in the post.

If your income for the month has dropped can't you find out if you can get housing benefit just for this month? Our council pay the Monday after applying so they're pretty quick.

We're in the middle of applying for housing benefit but we are awaiting my oh's pay slip as they need evidence of his. Income! Hopefully should have it today and get the forms in pronto x
