hi,

blake is just over 2 weeks old, he is on sma gold (like other 2 had) and is having 3oz every 2-3hrs. as well as this i am giving him a 4oz bottle of water during the day as he is struggling to poo. burping and farting isnt a problem!

anyone get any other ideas? i cant get hold of HV until tuesday at weighing clininc.

Massage your baby's tummy

Start at the belly button and then massage outwards in circles in a clockwise direction. Some oil or cream on your fingers can also help.

Only continue if your baby enjoys the massage and is comfortable and relaxed.
Move your baby's legs in a cycling motion

Place your baby so he or she is lying on their back. Hold their legs and turn them gently in a quick cycling motion.

This will make the stomach muscles move and, in turn, put gentle pressure on the intestines to make them move.
Give your baby a bath

A warm bath can make your baby relax so the stools are passed more easily. Once your baby has relaxed in the bath, you can also massage their stomach (see above).

When you wash your baby's bottom, apply some cream or petroleum jelly (Vaseline) around the outside of the anus.

a teaspoon of orange juice hun, thats what my mw and hv are telling me

I had this trouble with Mia when I had her on SMA, she was struggling to poo and when she did it was really green. I thought that maybe SMA was a little bit too rich for her and swapped her to Aptimal and she has been fine ever since.
xx

i had this problem with Maia - the dr recommended glycerin suppositories - they make them nice and small for children, and it lubricates them from the inside. Good luck!

Same here - we switched from SMA to aptamil and he's been fine since

I had this problem with my boy, i phoned the doctor in the end as he got so distressed and was in a hell of alot of discomfort - he was prescribed glycerin supps and it worked a treat!! within 5 mins of inserting it he pooed and was alot happier!

I also did alot of massage beforehand and moving his legs about for him so this may of helped things along the way before i inserted the suppositry.

Hope he poos soon xx

my other 2 were really sick with aptimal so i wont even go there. vaseline seems to have worked along with the water.

my Lo was like this on SMA so switched her to Cow And Gate Comfort and now she still only goes once a day but theres no crying or straining

Same here, I know you said your other two were on SMA but every baby is different and maybe its not working out for your LO, I had terrible problems with it, he was getting himself all worked up and pooing golden nuggets! So now on Aptamil

i have exactly the same prob ith my little boy. he is 6 weeks and only goes every 3/4 days. I was told orange juice mixed with cooled boiled water ... just a teaspoon. he gets so upset as though in pain after 2 days of not going tried allthe other stuff like massage etc xxx

I had the same problem with Mia a couple of weeks ago, and my HV also suggested adding a tea spoon full of orange juice to a few ounces of water. Only problem is she hates the taste of orange so wouldn't take it.

the orange juice and water thing and vaseline seems to be helping. massage and moving his legs did nothing.

Harvey had trouble pooing when he was on SMA i changed him to Cow and Gate and he has no problems at all now.
