sorry guys but struggling here :(

bodysuits- they can be worn during the day right on their own? or are they to wear underneath something such as a dress?

and sleepsuits you put a vest on underneath?

ahh im so confused with it all :( feel so stupid but ive never shopped for baby stuff before clothing wise!

and whats a romper??

help

xxx

Hehe. I THINK a romper is the same as a sleepsuit isnt it?? I thought it was more of an American way of saying sleepsuit but i could be completely wrong!!

I always used to put a vest under a sleepsuit - either a sleeveless one if its hot or a long sleeved one if its cold. And yep, you can use a bodysuit as just a top on its own, but you can also use it as something to put under a dress/top etc to add an extra layer of warmth :)

Its a bit confusing isnt it. You'll be a pro in about a day though once your LO is here :haha:

This is a romper....

Hi JJButtons, don't worry too much about all this you'll end up doing your own thing anyway. When you say sleepsuit do you mean like the sleeping bag? I just put a t-shirt of long sleeve top underneath depending on the weather as loverguts said. As for the rompers/bodysuit, I would use throughout the day and put a singlet underneath and a little cardigan over the top if its cold. Good luck

we normally put a bodysuit on under everything! Just to keep her nice and warm. A romper is a footless babygro basically, they are great for when it's warmer! We didn't put pops into vests til she was about 10/11 months, was bodysuits all the way!

wow.. i thought i was the only one who cracked a head over these issues :dohh:

i have few qs:

how do you know baby is warm enough?
when baby sleeps, do you use only a long sleeved sleepsuit and blanket ?
my baby is due early may, i was thinking its gonna be quite warm that time .. do you think i can put baby with bodysuit, some top and trousers and blanket in the pram, or shall i use as well the vest [warm one, open at the front with hood]?
how about leaving window open in the room when is baby?

aggrhhrrr.. so many questions..

Is a vest like a onesie? Or is that a bodysuit? all of this terminology confuses me so bad.

in my post by vest i meant a top, open in the front, warm one which you can use for cooler weather..

but if you type BABY VEST in google, millions of different things will come up.. :growlmad:

Well one source of confusion is that north Americans use different terms then they do in the UK. I think what is typically called a vest in the UK is what we call an undershirt in North America. A babygro in the UK is what we call a sleeper in North America and a bodysuit in the UK is what we call a onsie in North America.

I think of a romper as a one piece outfit that is footless and not a sleeper. I would also assume a sleepsuit is a sleeper or babygro.

Anyway it really does depend on the baby. My DS was born the end of January in Canada (we had a blizzard on the way home) and i would put an undershirt or vest on him under his clothing (usually a sleeper or long sleeve onsie and pants) only if it was super cold outside. I then of course put on his outerwear (fleece snowsuit/jacket, hat mitts, etc) At home and for sleeping I would usually only have him in a sleeper and if it was cool during the day a sweater or hoddie over top at night a sleeper and then a sleep bag but we co-slept so he had us to keep him warm. He was a very hot baby and hated being too hot.

The rule of thumb is to dress baby in one more layer then you would wear yourself. Oh and as far as having the window open we usually have the window open a crack all year round, we like it cool when we sleep. The other thing to keep in mind is that at night you do not want baby to overheat (it is dangerous) so no hats to sleep in and I would prob but baby in a sleeper and a very light sleep bag if it is warm or if it is really warm just a sleeper or even just a onsie. Babies usually cry and their skin (arms and legs) get a bit blue and feel cool to the touch when they are cold.

I know it seems all confusing but once you have your babe in your arms and you get to know there temperament you will have it all figured out in no time  Just be an observant mama.

I used a onesie/undershirt/vest under everything or on its own if a super hot day. I love them for the extra layer and because they snap up around the diaper keeping it comfy and in place. I have an 11 year old as well. I am sort of scared if I will remember everything but honestly, it all just falls into place... You will know what to do...honest!

Oops, quoted wrong post :)

If I remember right having a well ventilated room is one way that they recommend to prevent SIDS as well so I think an open window would be okay? We keep the window open a lot in the summer in our room and have a fan going as well (though I will make sure that the fan doesn't blow directly into the crib.

In the hottest part of the summer baby will likely only be wearing a onsie or a romper unless I have the AC on.

For sleeping we will do either a onsie plus a sleeper and light sleep sack/swaddling blanket when it's cooler and when it's warm just a onsie plus the sleep sack/swaddling blanket.
