I'm only 4 week pg, but the dreams have started where I can actually remember them! I used to always remember my dreams when I was a teenager, and I had dream books to tell me what they meant. So, last night I dreamt that I had my hair done in like, a hundred or so braids, which I've always wanted to try. The scary part is I saw myself in the mirror! I always read that if you see your own face in a dream it means your going to die! Am I being superstitious or what? Does anyone know about the meaning of dreams?

I don't know about the death thing, I've never heard of that. I used to have a brilliant dream book but leant it to someone and never got it back. I do believe that most symbolism in dreams is what it means to you, so if a suggested meaning makes no sense to you, then it probably wasn't what your subconscious mind was trying to convey. After all, these dreams are of your making. There are however many common symbols that are used to unravel dreams and these are usually from popular lore, mythology etc that even if you weren't consciously aware of, you will have seen and stored away at some point in your life.

The thing I remember about hair is it's a common symbol of strength (someone in mythology had their har all cut off and lost his strength - Samson, maybe, sorry I can't remember!) and the fact that you got a hairdo that you'd always wanted is probably just your mind reflecting the joy of you being pregnant and finally getting what you wanted. Ha! I just realised I said reflected - there's your mirror image unravelled, maybe? That was not a conscious choice of word either. hehe. It was maybe just showing you that you got what you want and you are strong in spirit, or body or whatever.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, I think dreams are an excellent omen in pregnancy - I had the wierdest dreams ever in my pregnancy with DD, and pretty much none with the boys, despite my hormone levels raging. It was strange to me at the time and I thought maybe it would start later. I wonder now if it was a sign that they were never going to stay. That probably sounds cracked I know but it was odd.

Anyhoo H&H 9 months to you xxx

I wouldn't be worrying too much - you will have all sorts of seriously weird dreams now you are pregnant! Congratulations on your pregnancy and be prepared for all sorts of weird and wonderful night time dreams - just wait til they get graphic and rude!

Ps Nikki- Samson wasn't technically in mythology he was in the Bible and yes he did loose all his strength when he had his hair cut off :flower:

Yes you can get very vivid dreams while you are pregnant. I did and none of it came true...

Wow, that made me feel so much better! Thank you :) I was so into the meanings of dreams when I was younger, always trying to get some sort of prediction of where my life was heading lol.

Omg, Im so sorry to hear about your twins, :hugs::hugs: that's so sad! I can't imagine! xxx

Oh ya, my last pg was horrible for the graphic and rude ones
My 2nd pg was horrible, theres still a dream I remember, and will never forget cuz it still upsets me. I kinda told myself I had that dream out of fear that my 1st born might feel left out, or like he isnt getting the same attention. My dream was he fell off a 30 floor balcony, and I watched him fall, and just saw his blond little curls on the back of his head vilently blow in the wind :( I dont know why I cant get over that one, it was 9 years ago!

Thanks Stormjet, that's quite bad that I didn't remember the source! OOps, hope I didn't offend. At least I got the character right, my memory's shocking just now, sorry.

Happymamma, I'm not surprised that you haven't gotten over that one, that's just given me shivers, yeuch! How can our own minds want to torture us like that!! I don't have much beleif in literal meanings of dreams though but they can still have one heck of an impact emotionally, which can be hard to shake off.

Thanks for your kind words too. It's terrible and in some ways just sinking in properly now.

Do you know what? I am so relieved! I have been having the *wierdest* dreams and now I find out it's normal!! *THANK YOU*!!! :flower:

Unfortunately I keep dreaming that I'm in work!! Very odd things keep happening in these dreams like my boss being nice to me or suddenly realising my cat is in my handbag and I've got to hide him all shift! Between that and the admitttedly graphic dreams thankfully about my husband! One was so vivid I had to wake him up...he was a happy man that night! x

That's very funny! Have you told your work yet? I'm just wondering about the "letting the cat out of the bag" symbolism in the handbag one, it seems very obviously a direct nod to that?:winkwink:

hahahaha.... that is too funny. I had a dream that my father in law shot himself in the head as a game. This was the eve of his wedding.... trying to tell hime something???

They do all know at work Nikki, cos I keeled over there a couple of times and I had to tell them incase someone thought it was serious and put out a resucitation team call! My cat's a bloody nightmarhink that's got more to do with it, he woke me this morning by trying to insert his head up my nose! x

"nightmarhink" managed to combine nightmare at the moment, I think into a brand new word! God my brain has switched off!!!!

Here I sit calmly reading posts, assuming it's safe to eat a big bowl of fruit loops,.. Apparently NOT! The cat up the nose comment made milk come outta mine! Thanx...:dohh:

I always read that if you see your own face in a dream it means your going to die! Am I being superstitious or what? Does anyone know about the meaning of dreams?

Does it say WHEN you're going to die if you see your face? We are all going to die sometime, so technically that would be true. :p
