I get Gerber packets in the mail, it has coupons for formula and food and also information on healthy habits for feeding LO. But they go by stages (Pregnancy, birth+, supported sitter, sitter, crawler, toddler, toddler 2+) not age. I just received the sitters packet in the mail with tips about introducing meats and yogurts. I have read that you should wait til at lease 6 months to introduce it. My LO is 5 1/2 months so not to far off but was just wondering about the logic behind it.

Does her nutritional needs change with her age or activity level? She has been sitting on her own for a while and can correct herself if she starts falling one way or the other. If she goes to fall forward she can put her hands out to catch her fall. She is on her way to crawling, on her hands and knees rocking back and forth and is starting to move her knees one in front of the other. She cant quite get how to move her hands with out falling over but its a matter of time. She can get where she wants to go but its a combo of scooting and rolling lol.

So should I go by age or her milestones? I know that a runner needs more calories than a couch potato, is it the same with babies? Should I be giving her meats and beans and dairy items? Or go by her age?

Thanks Ladies...

Tbh, it's probably not a good idea to take feeding advice from the company that wants to sell you as much product as possible. AAP and WHO recommend not starting solids until baby is 6 months of age and sitting up on their own, so going by whichever of those comes last would be the safest bet. If they need more calories before this, it can be provided in breast milk/formula and she'll let you know if she's hungry.

That sounds way too complicated for me. With DS all I did was start throwing a few pieces of food on his high chair tray after he started stealing from us at 5.5months. He controlled his own appetite by either eating the food or throwing it on the floor. Not that high tech, but it works.

My children still control own in take and I serve most meals as help your self. Over the space of a few days they naturally take a balanced diet!

I started rice cereal and pureed fruit and veg at 4 months as per her pead. She has loved it from the beginning and had all the signs of being ready. She still only gets it once a day cause if she eats solids in the morning she will refuse her bottle all day and only drink 10oz-12oz all day. I think that she loves real food and once she has a taste of it, she doesnt want anything else lol.
