switched formula, dark green very thick stool, worried!

My 6 week old son has been on Emfamil Gentlease for about 2 days now. I do give him some EBM but he is mostly formula fed as my supply is very low. I switched from the newborn formula to gentlease because he seemed to have a lot of gassiness. Anyway today he REALLY strained to have a poop, more than he has before, and when he finally went it was really dark green, almost gray in color, and very thick, like potter's clay. After the thick stuff came out, he had a little bit of bright greenish/yellow runny poop that followed. After I changed his diaper and laid him down, he proceeded to spit up a bunch, which I suspect is just a little overfeeding as he didn't seem uncomfortable when spitting up. Just when he pooped. He's acting fine and normal now. Should I be worried about his poop color/texture? Anyone else have this happen when they switched formula? Any opinions or advice welcome. First time poster!

Heya.

Im not in the US, but here in the UK we have what's called "Comfort milk" which is a milk that contains less lactose and easy digest proteins to help combat colic and constipation. So I would say that our comfort milk is very similar to "gentle" and "sensitive" formula types that you have in the US. One of the side effects of our comfort milk is green poop, which is completely normal with this formula. So I would say that having green poop with your gentle formula is probably normal too. xxx

A change in poo can happen when you change formula hun as their little tummy gets used to the new milk. Also some brands/versions contain more iron which can cause green poo.

You should notice things settle down in a week or so xx

My LO is on half breast milk / half formula and she still has those weird green poos. I was told it's due to the iron in the formula.

Same exact thing happened with my LO last week, from the texture to the follow-up yellow/green runny poop (which she almost squirted on me! Gross, I know lol) So I'm gonna say it's normal Also, my baby seems much calmer and doesn't struggle as much with gas on Gentlease, hth

formula has more iron than BM- can cause the green poo. Sophie always had khaki poo until she went on to solids.

I'm going through the same thing at the moment. I came home to visit my mum and got halfway through Belgium when I realised I left LOs milk at home, so I've had to slowly change her from what I had left of her normal milk to something else. She's on the new milk fully now and she's getting the green, hard poop. Seems to normal according to other replies (thank god because I was thinking wtf to her green poop!)
