Hello ladies.
I was wondering, is taking B6 [50mg] and a B-Complex, on top of a prenatal too much during pregnancy? I know that if the body doesn't use up all of the B Vitamins it will flush it out through the urine. But does it have any affects on the baby? Like mental health/physical issues? I started taking B Vitamins while TTC so that i could lengthen my LP. Did get pregnant in August but MCed and Im almost for sure its because of my LP. Anyways, im still taking the B Vitamins. Should i decrease the dose? should i stop taking them? Will this negatively affect my bean?

I was taking B100 for my LPD and kept it going for a bit once I got pregnant and thought I would finish the jar but when the nausea kicked in I ditched them as I was also taking pregnancy vitamins which were another 2 horse pills and I wasn't coping! To date, no effects from doing that but still another 10 days until my scan so can't say for sure.

My OB suggested I take some herbal anti morning sickness tablets that are 25mg B6 so I am still taking some but only started those recently.

I don't know the answer to your exact question just giving you my scenario. I guess ask your doctor/midwife/OB if you are concerned.

i would say check it out first with the doc but also check how much b's are in the prenateals as well as you dont want to take too much x

Thanks girls.
I will look into it when i go for the nurse history on Tuesday.
I checked into the amount of B Vit. in the prenatal and there are next to none (looked into that when i first started taking B Vits.). I also read many articles that say most prenatal vitamins lack the proper amount of B Vitamins necessary for pregnant women.

The one thing I have read about B6 is that you shouldn't take more of that than other B vitamins. So, I only take the B complex, and my Prenatal which has some B vitamin in it as well. I don't think you need the extra B on top of that. I guess it depends on the dosage...

I've been taking 1/2 a 50mg B complex every day on top of prenatal which has 750 micrograms (ie 0.75 mg). I'm thinking about stopping now though as I'm more or less able to eat my vegetables and whole grains again.
Too much B vitamins can cause nerve damage but that's more along the order of 200-1000mg a day.

My OB said that if you have bad morning sickness that you can take an additonal B6 vitamin on top of your prenatal to help prevent nausea...but thats all i know! and i have pretty bad sickness at times, but i just stick to my prenatal.

I just take my Elevit vitamins, but I've noticed there are a lot of B vitamins in there of different types....I would double check hun, just to be safe.

I've been taking a 1/2 B Stress Complex since before my BFP. I now have added a prenatal to that as well, since about week 9 or so. I track my intake of certain vit and minerals that are in my natural diet too. So I'm aware of what I eat. I did a lot of research on the B vits. Sadly most of the vitamins that you take in tablet form are not digested or absorbed... but the upside to that is, it makes it very hard to overdose. B12 when taken with folic acid is not as effect either. One negates the other. And B vits are better when taken together, to avoid anemia and overdose.
My thinking is, I took the B's before to regulate hormones. It's not any less important now, probably more so. So I chose to continue.
Also, let me say that I've talked to my doc about my vits and he was okay with me continuing them with the prenatal. I think its individual and should be discussed and researched correctly.
Any way, bottom line, do your research and talk to you doc too.

B6 def. works for nausea and MS!
As you all know i've been taking for about 2 months now. Been preggo for 7 weeks and NEVER had MS. I had nausea once but it only lasted 5 minutes. Havn't had anything since, so i would say if you want help with MS, def take the B6!

Hi girls!

I just wanted to give you an update since I met with the OB nurse to go over family history and all.

I told her about the B6 and stuff and she told me that B6 is a very good choice for pregnant woman. She told me i could cut out the B-Complex now, keep taking my prenatal :dohh:, and instead of taking one 50mg B6 pill a day, to take three 25mg of B6 throughout the day. Thats what she suggegsted and she said it wont have any side effects on the bean and that its perfectly healthy

She also said it is avidly "prescribed" for woman with MS. So if any of you ladies are in doubt about B6 take 25 mgs 3X per day its healthy, needed during pregnancy, and helps with MS

i was looking for this thread bc i was gonna add the same thing you just said guppy, lol my ob just had me start taking the b6 25mg 3xday, but she said to only take it for 3 days and then call her back if i'm still sick?? but i had 2 doses, one last night and one this morning and i have only thrown up once, so it has to be working! lol

My guess would be she just wanted to know if it was working or not? but i specifically asked how long can it be taken for? Is it safe? Is it okay for the baby? and she said it is a VERY good vitamin to be taking. and that really, anyone can take it. So its perfectly safe to take everyday (at the dose we are speaking about)

I really do believe it works because i havn't had any severe nausea at all this pregnancy. Felt a little something in the tummy upon waking but nothing bad or unbearable and ive been taking the stuff for almost 2-3 months, so i say it works  and our bodies need it. I have noticed that my urine is less yellow since becoming preggo so that obviously means that i need more B6 while pregnant.
