I've been prescribed the iron tablet ferrous fumarate to take 3 times a day but I also take my prenatal vitamins which contain iron. I want to keep taking the prenatals as they contain other key vitamins however I'm not sure if it wud be too much therefore harmful? I didn't get a chance to ask my doctor. Anyone been in thr same situation or have any advice? Thanks x

i take prenatals and iron because the doctor perscribed it as well.. but because i dont want to have too much iron because it makes me feel weird, i take the iron every other day.

Better call and ask. Too much iron isn't good. Can make you constipated as well as other problems. If you're truly deficient on it, you might need that much, but best to check.

It is always best to talk to your doctor but I take my anti-natal vitamins, iron and vitamin D with no problems.

Hi Kmx:
Since the prenatal Vitamins contain calcium the iron does not get absorbed well by the body. That's why Iron tablets are prescribed separately. I was asked to take mine at least an hour after any diary based foods.
I was prescribed iron tablets at the beginning of 4th month. I took them religiously for a month along with prenatal vitamins. However I haven't taken mine during the entire 5th month as they t made me feel nauseous and decreased my appetite. Now that I have finally put on some wait I am planning to start taking them again (since I feel quite weak and suspect I am anemic).
