I didn't plan to be doing this anywhere near 16 months but as Luke is now so tall he can climb and fall out his cot. I guess for safety I should be taking the sides off, so am going to get a bed guard and go for it tonight. I really feel he is too young still, has anyone any tips to make this successful? I'm preparing myself for some sleepless nights! :winkwink:

He already has a pillow and quilt and is tucked in well. He doesn't really move much, by the time we go to bed 9 times out of 10 he is still in the same position and he still falls asleep whilst having his last bottle nearly every night x

I don't really have any advice other than to stay consistent, especially one he realizes that he can get out of bed on his own. I do have some words of encouragement for you though. My mom switched both my brother and I to a regular bed at 13 months (both times due to needing to return a borrowed crib) and we both took to it fine. It can be done!

DS had the side off his cot at 18 mos for the same reason (climbing out) and while he does wake us often by coming into our bed, he hasn't had many incidents of actually falling out. I remember for the first month we made a cushion with pillows, but they weren't necessary.

It has been about 7 months now and it's not very often he sleeps through/stays in bed...but we're soldiering on and just putting him back in his room when he comes to us. I figure it sucks now, but it won't happen forever.

My eldest daughter was in a full size single bed at 13 months and my youngest (now 16 months) had her cotbed changed to a bed about a month ago and all has been fine. She is a bad sleeper so it makes it easier as we can lay with her if necessary and she has never got out (although I'm sure that will come at some stage!) or fallen out.

I've got to do this also before he hurts himself am dreading it as he shares a room with his brother :-(

Thanks everyone :flower:

So far so good, he loved the sides being off, he thought it was great to be able to get in and out himself. Just have to see what happens through the night! Double nervous as I now have no monitor with a light flashing as he breathes and worried I won't hear him cry. He is in the next room with doors open so I should hear x

You will hear, you heard before right? Try not to worry too much, he (and you) will be fine! :hugs:

How did it go? Dd slept like a dream last night! After Oh put her to bed at half 7 she slept right thru til half 6 no wakings At ALL which is strange! I gave her milk at half 6 n she went back off on her own until 8.40! Pray for me it wasn't a one off!!!

That's brilliant! Hope it's the start of things to come for you, especially going until 8.40! We had a fantastic night, he didn't wake at all and at 7.40 I heard him wake and a couple of minutes later he wondered into our room with a grin on his face as if to say this is great! I'm hoping for the same tonight as he hasn't napped at all today and is in the biggest grump right now :dohh: good luck again for tonight!! :hugs:

Heya - we took the sides of my LO cot when she was 15 months.

It has been fine - she hasnt fallen out once as its quite low to the floor anyway.

Like your LO if she does wake up she just comes running in our room with a smile on her face for a cwtch and then goes back to bed!!

Hopefully it will continue to be good for you! xxxxxxxxxxxx

Our days yesterday must have been quite similar! Luke has 5 teeth coming, and normally handles it quite well even cutting the first half of his top molars without us realising! But yesterday he wouldn't eat either... Or sleep.... And last night started with a temperature and some full scale whining leaving me little hope for the night. He went to bed early at 7.20, woke and cried at 11.30 then again at 6 waking at 8.15. Was really impressed that each time he woke he didn't get out of bed, just waited for me to go and tuck him back in and hold his hand for a bit. Hoping you had another good night, especially as I noticed your ticker!!! Congratulations! X

Aww thank u! Well she was good didn't wake much until 2.30am n she was up about 40 mins but I just gave her milk n she went back off n got up at 8 so can't really complain!

She's also gone to sleep on her own 2nite too!

I on the other hand didn't go to sleep til 1 last night n was up loads with back ache n feelin crampy! I'm now in bed feelin so sick with the same back pain :-( so got the hot water bottle out n gona try n get an early one! x
