Hey well I know its not for a while yet,but im thinking, when I go on mat leave will my LO still be able to go to nursery as he would if I was working???Im really confused, its a private nuresery and beacuse im a lone parent I get help towards childcare costs so Im wondering does it continue or do I have to take him out then put him back in?cos that'd be awful for him!thanks

hi hun
i am currently pregnant and i have a 10 month baby boy who goes to nursery from 9am to 2pm every day. i phoned up the tax credits folk and asked them what happens to the funding while you are on maternity leave and apparently they will still pay for the nursery place as you are classed as working (as long as you qualify for MA or SMP). so your LO can still go to his nursery when you are on matty leave. hope this helps.

Thanks how do you find out if you qualify for MA, I know I dont qualify for SMP as I only work sixteen hrs and earn under 90pounds a week.

i wont qualify for SMP as i have only just started my job. i think to qualify for SMP you have to have been employed by your employer for 26 weeks 15 weeks before your baby is due.

I will qualify for MA (which is £123 per week for 39 weeks)......to qualify for MA you have to have been working (not necessarily by the same employer) for 26 weeks over a 66 week 'window' period. You will qualify for MA as you are making £90 per week (you have to make over £30 per week to qualify). So as long as have worked for 26 weeks before you start your maternity leave you will get MA and your nursery fees paid for 39 weeks.....

i hope this makes sense to you hun.

you'll get smp as long as you were employed there the 1st day of your cycle. if not as long as you have been working 26 weeks befor the 15th week before baby is due you'll get ma which to be honest either way you get the same amount and your job is still safe. i was out my cycle by 2days so i had ma

thanks hun. see i have been in a temping job since start of April (finished that on friday) and i start a perm part time job tomorrow. Money wise it will work out the same (SMP, MA). AS long as i have 26 weeks employment (which i will have) i will qualify for MA and therefore Ali can still go to nursery when i am on maternity leave. he loves nursery, i am sure he would get bored at home with me and new baby lo.
