I dont really understand tax credits one bit!

I just received our claim form this morning - it wants earnings from 08-09. I left work on maternity leave at the end of March 2009 and left properly in November 2009 (after Alex died I couldnt face going back and then I got pregnant with Daisy and knew I wouldnt want to return to work - I would want to make the most of her)

So do you have to apply for tax credits each tax year? cause I will have earnings to write down this time but I havent received a penny on benefits nor working since March 09 as I wasnt entitled to SMP so didnt get any maternity pay.

Hubby works full time and has switched jobs so income is slightly different since October 09

Its all too confusing :dohh:

For Working Tax Credit: Give them your earnings from 08/09 like it asks. Then they will send you their assessment of what you are entitled to. When you get this letter call them back and tell them your predicted earnings for this tax year (and probably next tax year). They will then reassess and send you another letter out and your payments will start.
I guess it will work the same for Child Tax Credit.

tax credits is the same so im told. apply using the figures they ask for then when you get your entitlement back contact them with your new figures and they adjust them for you. its a backwards process
