We're using avent bottles, and have been using slow flow teats (2 holes) for the last 3 weeks or so. The last few days Lottie has been falling asleep on the bottle quite a lot and is taking a long time to finish a feed even when she does stay awake. I tried some of the medium flow teats yesterday (3 holes) and she coped well with the flow, fed much quicker and stayed awake but took on a LOT of air while feeding.

The only thing I can think is that the silicone isn't as soft on the medium flow teats as the slow flow and she's struggling with that and taking on too much air. Do you think we need to wait a bit longer before trying again, or is it possible to "customise" the slow flow teats by sticking a pin through to add a third hole?

I'm not sure about the pin thing, as I never did this. My LO was on avent bottles and she couldn't advance past the slow flow and she is 16 weeks old. She already had a poor suction and milk leaks out of corner of her mouth, but with the med. flow she gagged and choked. I do know that avent sells a variflow teat that may be better for her. I never used it because it was so hard to find here. They were always sold out of them. We ended up switching to NUK. I got tired of leaking and she spits up a lot less on NUK.
