Teats getting blocked

Hi

I used Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles and we're currently using stage 3 teats and are feeding Harry Aptamil Easy Digest formula. We keep having the same problem over and over.... the teats keep getting blocked up and the milk stops coming out. There doesn't seem to be anything causing the blockage. I've read that the easy digest formula is thicker/creamier than other formulas... but how do we get around this problem?

We think that it MIGHT be that we're using cold water steraliser which as some of you know, makes the teats etc go cloudy over time... does this mean it softens them slightly?? Do you think this could be a possibility??

We're on the verge of changing bottles, but Harry is so fussy with taking bottles that we don't want to do this if it's not necessary. Same with the steraliser... I don't want to be spending money on a microwave steraliser if it's not needed.

Any ideas??

i know avent make teats that are designed for thicker liquids....

Thanks. I think we're probably going to have to switch bottles if this is the case.

I've found this with my size 2 teats on Tommee Tippee! She's on Easy Digest milk too.

Cant afford new bottles but tis so annoying!

Edit: Oh and we use a steam sterliser so its not that =[

Have you thought about a Variflow teat? I am sure they are also designed for thicker milks aren't they?
Good Luck! xxx

Thanks for your replies.

I think i'll probably buy a couple of variflow teats to see if they make any difference. We've so far tried the stage 2 and 3 teats, and the ones with the vent thing in and all have done the same thing. The stage 2 teats strangely seem to get blocked less than the stage 3 ones i've found.

Kind of glad to hear that it's not because we use a cold-water steraliser because I really like it.

yeah was gonna say that too, i bought vari flow, means baby gets whatever it needs. My sister said they are good.

Going to just buy some variflow tomorrow myself as it works out cheaper than changing her bottles for me and I did a bit of research on the net and this is what they;ve said to do :) Hope it works for us! :D

Ollie is on easy digest too and we have him on the variflow teats and they work great but he can sometimes drink his milk too quickly so have to keep stopping but have had no blocked teats. We use the steam steriliser. Hope the variflow work for you. Take care :hugs: XX

i had EXACTLY the same problem but had to change LO's milk to hungry baby and wierdly enough this isnt as thick. they do do vari flow teats which are meant to be good if you look in boots. not sure if this is any help and like wise i have a steam steriliser too!, i felt so guilty when brandon-li was sucking nothing for ages!!! and the only way to unblock them is to squeeze the end of the teat which makes sterilisation pointless! lol.
i totally sympathise with you, i doubt ill be using these bottles again with my next!!! i even considered emailing them and complaining maybe its worth a go they may send you vouchers to get different teats saves you some money!!! xx
