As in the kind where you work temporary contracts rather than sticking a thermometer in orifices about your person!

So does anybody still do temping? Are there opportunities readily available and how do you get into them? I left university before completing my degree in May and haven't managed to find a job since. I am sick to the back teeth of doing nothing so wondered whether it's worth giving this a go.

What do you ladies think?

You need to have a search for agencies in your area and then they'll normally get you to fill out a form and interview you before they put you on their books. I think you have to do a lot of chasing them to stay on top of their pile. My mum did it a lot when we were at school and she would ring them pretty much every morning asking if they had anything! It's good money if you can get it.

I temped for about 3 years when I first moved to Scotland!
I literally moved here, and emailed my CV to every single employment agency in a 20 mile radius and it really didnt take very long before I had interviews set up.
The benefits of temping are that you can do very short - term work, covering sick leave, holidays etc, or you can do longer-term positions where you need to complete a specific project for example, or you can even do longer maternity leave cover positions which can be up to a year now!

I've always found temping to be better personally, as you do get a better rate of pay, you are still entitled to holidays etc, and when it comes to christmas cover you can do lots or none at all, its entirely your choice (unlike perm jobs I've had where they make everyone work either christmas eve/new years eve which I hate!)

If you build up a good relationship with your agency, they will always have you in mind for new jobs which are coming up, and you shouldnt find you are out of work for long at all.

I'll certainly be going back to temping when I return to work.
