Hi just wondering if any of you have used a tens machine in labour and if so which one did you use and did it help? Im really confused as theres so many to choose from but ive heard good things about the elle tens but it seems a bit much to spend if it doesnt do much for me, any advice would be great  thanks girls

I used one and can recommend it. I borrowed mine from a friend - it was the Obi TENS. What about renting one instead of buying one? xx

Thanks i'll have a look at that, id rather buy a second hand 1 cos you can buy for cheaper than renting in some cases but i'll look into it thanks hun

Keep an eye on the second hand ones on e-bay i did but didnt get one from there for the right price so ordered one from birthease when i got my birth ball.

I got the elle tens one and it was dead easy to use.

My hubby put the pads on plugged it in and just turned it up as my contractions picked up pace and intensity.

I didn't feel the need for any other pain relief.

I got my Elle Tens machine with free delivery and upgrade to extra large electrodes for £54.99. I was looking to rent but they were not much cheaper and with this at least I do not have to worry about sending it back, plus I can ebay it after and easily get most of my money back as the electrodes are the only thing that need replacing and are really cheap. It came within 2 days.

tens didnt work for me i was already in active labour when the midwife put it on me. My labour was just too fast xxx

Hi

I have the neurotrac maternity tens, this is the brand used by those few NHS hospitals that supply TENS and their other models are widely used by physiotherapists and other specialists. It's not as pretty as some models but it has all of the features of the top end models, yet can be bought for about £35 new.

Hi

also often this TENS comes with two sets of pads (they are automatically the big obstetric ones which are more suited to labour). The battery lasts for ages too; mine was still going after two labours and FIVE years; but I disposed of it as it went out of date a few months ago. I also have very fast labours with no latent stage; so a TENS doesn't do much for me; however I think it was better than absolutely nothing and I have re-batteried and re-padded mine for this time around just in case.

I bought an Elle Tens and wouldn't have been without it.

Make sure you put it on at the first signs of anything happening, then it has time to build up. You can also try practising with it in the last week or so of your pregnancy - then it will be easier to use when it comes to the real thing (just make sure you have it on the lowest setting!!!). Also get a spare pair of electrodes cos they can get a bit unsticky!

I hired an Elle Tens and it was great - got me to 6/7cms and only needed it on level 2 the whole time (has 15 levels).

I couldn't have managed without my TENS machine, it was the only pain relief I had in labour (apart from paracetemol) and I managed to stay at home for most of the labour, arriving at the hospital just in time to deliver.

I had the Miracle TENS, which I bought new from the Baby Show for about £40. It's not much more expensive on their website:
