With my first child i had a tens machine and this really took the edge off the pain through the first stages of labour, second stages i got in the pool and had gas and air..bliss, think ill opt for the same this time round.

With my first I just denied I was in labor until I hit transition and then was so panicked that OH wouldn't make it for the birth or that I wouldn't make it to the hospital that it distracted me. Wouldn't say it was 'relief' though.

With my second, warm water, either in bath or shower was the best relief for me during the first stages of labor. Massage and standing/swaying with OH helped with the next bit, and when I hit transition it just hurt. But was over fast so by the time I decided I needed something, it was time to push.

Hoping to use more water this time, possibly a birthing ball, and trying more positions to see if that brings more relief.

No TENS or G&A available to me, otherwise I'm sure I would have tried them.

I had a TENS machine, great in early stages
G and A - no effect at all but it gave me something to grip
Pethidine - again, no effect at all
Paracetamol IV drip - fantastic!!!!

Pethadine saved me when I had a very long labour, allowed me to relax and rest, save strength for the hardcore bit! x

wanted a water birth but induced so couldn't and confined to bed space. gas & air good. Pethadine let me sleep after being awake for over 24 hours.

positive thinking? oh and the tens was awesome

Pethidine was useless. Gas and air was ok. Breathing really helped

I was induced so my labour was incredibly rapid and intense contractions from the get go! very close between each one and started very strong, no build up. Had no pain relief until 4cm, had gas and air between 4&6, then at about 6cm had an epidural. it's your choice, just see how you feel at the time! I planned on absolutely no epidural! and I planned on a water birth but couldn't as I was induced. But do what's best for you in your situation xx xx

/\ This /\ Positive thinking & mental strength was probably the best thing, it prevents you from panicing and loosing control which will only make things worse. I also had gas and air tho.

I used gas and air which did not much for the pain but helped me breathe deeply and diamorphine which was nice as I snoozed but also did nothing for the pain. Water only this time hopefully.

only had the gas and air but got it so late I didnt need anything else!

Intrathecal shot. 2 hours of instant 100% pain relief. Brilliant!! Wore off just in time for me to push and 5 minutes later I had my baby.
