Hi All
Lexie is now 20 months ols but I thought I would share her birth story with you all
It all stated on June 25 2010, I woke up in the morning as usual to go to work and I had lower back pain and a strange cramping in my lower tummy, wasnt too concerned as I had suffered with these pains from the beginning of my pregnancy. I had been very warm in Jersey that same week so had the usual swelling, sweating etc.
Went to work but then started to feel a bit nauseous again didnt think anything of it as I had heard that in the 3rd trimester the morning sickness comes back, went to go to the loo and I had some bloddy show. Only then did I start to panic. I went straight from work to the maternity ward where they placed me on a monitor to measure baby's movement and contractions if there were any. I was asked to provide a Urine Sample which I did to find something floating in the top of the cup they gave me (TMI) I now know that this was my plug coming away
I had been having painless braxton hicks since about week 17 so again I wasnt concerned.
I was monitored for 4 hours, then a doctor came in felt my tummy and said no you are not in labour and sent me home
I carried on as normal the following day it was again extremely hot over here so I didnt feel great all day, wasnt at all hungry so had a sandwich for dinner and watched films all evening with my hubby.
I started getting the lower tummy pain at about 10.30pm which kept on coming every 10 mins but they werent at all agonising so didnt mention anything to my hubby. We finished watching a film then went to bed @ 2.30am.
I woke up at 3.15am to go to the loo as normal and I felt a gush, my waters had gone my immediate reaction was to sit on the loo I screamed to wake up my hubby and they just kept coming (they were pinky in colour BTW TMI)
Rang labour ward and they said to come in as I was 33 + 4 weeks
To be honest everything from there was a blur, had an examination by the doctor when I arrived to said yes I was in labour but my cervix hadnt even begun to open yet so I wouldnt be having my baby until at least lunchtime the next day and the contractions kept coming
I didnt have any break between them at and all the midwives just left me and my hubby to deal with them, all of a sudden my tummy started to push down all by itself we called the midwife who checked me and said wow you are fully dialated that was 3 hours after my waters broke I really struggled to get her out but @ 7.19am (after a little snip down there) and no pain relief (which I was really proud of myself for) Lexie was born a healthy 5ln 4 oz and breathing on her own, great colour and screamed the place down. The doctors etc couldnt believe how in great condition she was considering her gestation, she went into SCBU and was then released 3 weeks later
As this was my first pregnancy I had now idea what was normal pains and what were abnormal I sure do know now for next time what to look out for
