I'm looking at different breast pumps and wondering if the electronic ones work better than the manual ones.

The electonic ones seem so expensive and I just wanted to know if it was worth buying one or just sticking to the cheaper ones.

I've been told it's best to wait until your little one is here and your sure breast feeding will work out before you invest in a pump. Get a manual one for now and use it, and if you find you need to pump more then I'd look into getting an electric one.

They have horrid resale values so it would stink to buy one and then find out you barely use it!

True I guess I didn't really think about that that's good to know I think i will wait because I'm trying to figure out what i can afford to buy before baby is here thanks!

I bought a manual one today for £10 from asda. Even if it doesnt work for me, it wasnt too painfully expensive

i used a manual one, as you can wait for your let down rather then having a constant pumping as you get with an electric one, plus all being well hopefully you wpnt need to use a pump to much, downside of manual u get hand ache :P

I have a electric one and It helped alot in the beginning.
I got SOO sore from BF and I would pump and then give her EBM cause my nips hurt soo bad.
And the manual ones are good but take longer and your hands get tired!
But I would wait til after baby to make sure you can BF!

They are GREAT TO HAVE!

It really depends how often you are thinking of expressing, if you are only going to be giving the odd expressed feed then you won't need to spend the money on an electric one. Wait and see how it goes though xxx

Electric ones are better then manual. They're a lot easier on you and they empty your breasts a lot faster too. I have tried a manual one and I absolutely hated it unfortunately. Although I know a lot of BFing moms who don't mind manual ones. You might want to ask this question over in the Breastfeeding section - because you'll get a lot more advice from moms.

I have an electric pump and it's really nice. It empties my breasts in about 10 minutes so I'm not sat there pumping forever. Also they are good to have in case at the beginning your breasts are really sore from trying to BF. You should have one just to keep your supply up! :flower:

I've tried both and i couldn't get anything out of a manual but the electronic ones worked a dream . x

i had a TT manual to begin with, but it drove me mad, it took so long to get jsut a few oz and it hurt my hand, so i managed to hire an electric one. i just asked my HV about it, and she brought me one the next week. ive got it for as long as i want and i don't need to pay a penny! :happydance:

I had a manual and electric with my son, never used the electric part, I was pro at manual and I even would just do it free hand sometimes cause i found it easier. I also barely gave him bottles.

Personally the electric hurt and they are loud. I didnt like it at all, I bought a manual medela again this time, and have a one step (or something cant remember) electric one a friend gave me cause she never used it as she bottle fed.
