So since 36 weeks I had been starting with strong contractions for hours at a time and suddenly theyd just stop. From this I was 3cm dilated at 37 weeks but not going into active labour just very achy and sore.
On friday (15th) I got alot of contractions and they stopped but I suddenly had alot of pain and pressure in pelvis and it felt like baby had switched position.
Fast forward to monday and I had a consultant appointment where I was booked for induction on 25th November at 39 weeks. Baby was head down but not engaged right on the brim.
All day I had alot of back pain and pressure but no contractions. By 9pm I was exhausted so went to bed. I couldn't get comfy but I must of dozed off because next thing I knew it was 12.15am and I was getting these waves of really intense pain in my back and pressure in my pelvis/bum. I came down and took some paracetamol and went back up to bed. I couldn't sleep as these waves of pain were coming every 5 minutes ish and getting more painful with each one. At 12.50am I woke my hubby up and said it was really hurting but I wasnt contracting so I didn't know what to do. He held my hand and we lay there until 1am when the pain was unbareable and hubby said to ring labour ward.
I rang them and explained I wasn't getting contractions in my tummy just back pain and pressure in waves, the midwife said it could be labour so to come on in. I then rang my mum at 1.10am and asked her to come across and stay with our girls so we could go. I then got in the bath at 1.20am to try and ease the back pain convinced it would all die off. By 1.30am I was on all 4's rocking from the pain and pressure. At 1.40am I got out the bath and hubby helped me upstairs to get dressed and get ready to go as soon as mum got here. By time I got up to our room the pressure was so intense I couldn't stand so I lay on my side on the bed and hubby pulled on my knickers and leggings. While on my side I suddenly got a pushing sensation down there and I thought my waters were gunna go so I told hubby he had to ring an ambulance as we wouldn't make it to the hospital otherwise. At 1.45am he rang 999 as he got connected I got the pushing sensation again and burning and I realised it was baby's head so I told hubby she was coming and he put the phone on loud speaker so the operator could talk us through what to do. He rolled me onto my back and grabbed clean towels and put pillows under my head. He pulled off my leggings and knickers and checked if he could see baby's head, he couldn't. With the next pain he could and I pushed down as he put gentle pressure on to stop me tearing. The woman on the phone then said I had to deliver the rest of the baby straight away so we could check the cord wasnt around her neck so hubby held her head as I did one last big push and she was born on our bed into hubbys arms at 1.50am before the ambulance arrived. She was born facing up so thats why I never had contractions in my tummy like I expected and my waters went as she came out.
We wrapped her up and I held her until 1.55am when the paramedic arrived and checked her over, she was perfect. Hubby cut her cord and waited for my mum who arrived 10 minutes later to meet her new granddaughter.
I arrived at the hospital at 2.45am and delivered the placenta at 3.00am no injection or pain relief.
Baby Eliza weighed 6lbs exactly and was 49cm long. Delivered totally naturally, no stitches needed and just by trusting my body, it was the most empowering thing I have ever done and I have never loved my husband so much. It may not of been planned that way but I would do again just the same!
We are now back home shes 2 days old and amazing, I am totally smitten!
