I had to switch to formula. We couldn't ever get him to latch and pumping is getting to extreme so I kind of quit pumping BUT I did pump earlier today because I was beyond sore and couldn't take it..my question is if I keep doing that (I hadn't pumped since Sunday) will my milk slow way down where eventually it won't be so painful to let my milk completely dry up? I had just planned on pumping when it hurts and slowly weaning away from that but didn't know if it would always still hurt to quit completely.

No No STOP pumpming, your body will produce more and more milk as painful as it gets dont touch them, this is only if your sure about making the switch.

I stopped breastfeeding just over a week ago, I took 2 tablets to help dry up my milk, which you can get from your doctor, but it doesnt dry them up like magic, I still had the awfully painful full breasts, but I only put cold cabbage leaves in my bras to help with the engorgement and took nurofen for the pain, & its only now that I can say my boobs are back to normal.

i stopped by doing exactly what you described. gradually reducing the pumping. it took about a week and wasnt painful as a result. :)

i tried cold turkey and it was agony.

I did very short pumps when I let mine dry up just to ease the pain and pressure slightly. It did help and I was only sore for a couple of days x

You ladies were very lucky, there was no way I could pump, I always had an over supply, so I guess everyone is different & YES it was painful for me to go cold turkey, but I had to otherwise my boobs would have just produced more and more!

Totally agree. Reason I had to stop bf was a rubbish supply so pumping wasn't going to make a real difference :(
