Thoughts on this combination of sibling names?

So we're having our third boy. We have Noah and Milo and we are contemplating naming the baby Dexter. What do you think?

We have two slight issues. The first is that our nephew has Dexter as his middle name, so we need to ask my BIL if he'd be ok with it. The second is that my mum really hates the name Dexter. She would never stand in the way of us using any name but really dislikes it and hers is the only other opinion I care about.

So I'm interested to know what other people think of it. She thinks it's a harsh sounding name.

Other names we have liked but just arent quite right for us - Jeremy, Jasper, Casper, Rupert, Sidney, Gabriel. None of these are the name. But bearing them in mind, are there any others you could suggest?

I think it goes well and I like it. Shame your mum doesn't like it, as much as I hate to admit it, if my mum didn't like a name it would put me off.
How about
Theo
Arthur
Ezra
Archie
Elliot
Maximus
Franklin
Benjamin
Glenn
Cassius
Caspian
Reuben
Elijah
Felix
Rex
Jude

Dexter is cute, it was favourite name many years ago before the show became popular. I think it goes perfectly fine with your other LO's names.

My mom didn't care for our name choice had LO been a boy (Oliver) and it didn't really put me off at all, honestly. I totally value her opinion on pretty much everything but I think names are so much down to personal taste that no one but mine and my DH's opinions on it matters to me - it's hard enough finding names that we both like, let alone including other opinions!

I also immediately thought of Ezra when I saw your other kids' names. Elijah and Charlie would be cute, too.

Thanks ladies :flower:

We really do love the name. I like the way it sounds with my other two. It's tough because my mum isn't the type to say eurgh that's awful etc, she'd never say that or try to force her opinion on me - it's more that I want her to love it like I do! Having said that she wasn't too sure about Noah to start with and now loves it, so maybe she'll come around.

I do like Elijah out of your list Loraloo, my only thing with it is that it usually becomes Eli and I'm not a fan of Eli. Love Ezra as well, but I know people who have a female Ezra so that would be a bit strange. Although to me Ezra is a boys name.

My mum was the same with Ollie. She pulled a face when we named him, now she says she can't imagine him called anything else (After that we stopped sharing names Til after they were born lol) I'm sure if you go ahead with Dexter it will be a grower on your mum too x

My mum really didn't like any of my girls names. Now of course she's come round to them because she loves my girls so now loves there names too. I think it flows fine with the other two names too

I think they all sound great together!!

I like Dexter, it's on my list to be a sibling for Finlay.
My mil pulled a face at Callum (also on the list) so it does affect it, I still like it though!

Thanks all! The more time goes by the more I think of him as a Dexter, it does sadden me a little that my mum doesn't like it but hopefully it will grow on her.

Now just to ask the BIL if he minds...

What about Rufus. Its now a major contender for me if we have a little boy in the future.

I love your boys names.

I think it goes well with the other sibling names, as well as sibling names "should" go. Not cutesey together, not necessarily exactly the same style, but nothing major that would cause a person to think twice like having a super traditional name with a name of an obviously different ethnicity.

I have two kids with similar styles as your's and also 4-letters and I can't get off the idea of wanting my 3rd to have 4 letters too even if I know there is no necessity. My kids are Nora and Adam and for a girl we are leaning towards Alia or Lana with no options we both like for boys.

I think that your mom will definitely come around on the name if you use it. You can love any name when it's the name of someone you love, they become the name! If she hates it to that degree, there's always the nickname! :)

I like dexter and I also think Sebastian would go great with your boys names

Ezra was the first name that came to mind. I think it's a great sibling name for Noah and Milo, though I like Dexter too.

Orion, Elias, Flynn and Jude also sound great.

i'm also pregnant with our 3rd boy,
we have James Conner and Kyle-John George
and then this one will be Tom Edward

I like Dexter. I also think Maximus (Max) goes and has the X sound

I really, really like Jeremy and Casper.
like CandiceSj i think the names of the children don't necessarily have to fit perfectly together, as long they fit your child as a kid and as a grown up person and you like it.
