Hiya,

I had two days off work for high blood pressure a week or so back and whenever you're off you have to fill in a form to say why and sign it.

Our company uses the "Bradford Points System" to manage / keep an eye on peoples attendance.

I filled this form in and my manager said okay thanks, by the way your at 8 points now. Are they allowed to give me them when I was off for pregnancy related reasons ?

Im sorry this is really jumbled, I'm not great at explaining things :haha:

Thanks

Hi, is this a disciplinary proceedure? - no they're not allowed to count pregnancy related absence/sickness.
(You may be required to get a letter from your doctor though)

If it's about sickpay, then normal rules apply.

Hiya,

Yes if your points go above a certain number then you have to have a disciplinary hearing.

xx

They cant give you a disciplinary for pregnancy related illness and have to record any pregnancy related separately to normal sickness

At my work if your absence goes over 3% you can get disciplinary, mine was 59%!!!! but they had to clear it as it was with morning sickness

Do you think I should mention it to them / if my points ever got high enough to take it further i'd just be able to say well those days were for pregnancy related problems etc.

I would definitely get this sorted asap.

Even if it never reaches disciplinary... they a) should know their responsibilities as an employer, and b) could be brought up as part of pay negotiations etc.

I would get it sorted now also, if you wait until it's an issue they could start to say why you hadn't mentioned it previously. Pregnancy related sickness can't be subject to the same disciplinary procedures as normal sickness xx
