Time to get preg after D&C? (age 37)

Hi,

I had a mmc in July (found out at 9+ weeks that embryo had died around 7 weeks or so). After nearly a month (since it died) of NOTHING happening, I opted for a D&C. This was 2 months ago.

DH and I waited 1 full cycle to start trying (my doc told me to wait 6 months - um as if lol!) We tried last month but AF showed up, a day or two earlier than expected.

So I guess I just want to know if anyone has been in a similar situation where they notice (e.g. after a mc) they *are* ovulating, but AF seems to be a bit weird/not normal, and if this had any impact on trying to get pregnant. Sorry for the TMI, but my AFs since the D&C have both started off pretty brownish, and normally it would be more red. I also have less menstrual cramping than normal (was similar after my early mc for about 2 cycles). Could this mean my hormones or lining aren't yet "back up to speed" or something?

How many cycles post D&C did it take you to have a BPF and sticky baby?

We haven't had a lot trouble conceiving in the past so I haven't yet considered doing any hormonal checks. Also not sure what that would cost here (ACT, Australia), but my mother and grandmother began menopause in their late 30s, so that is in the back of my mind...

Thanks for any insight!

I'm in the same boat you are, so I'm stalking this post. 6 months!?? My doc said 1 normal period. My first one was definitely not normal. I am ovulating though. We BD'ed on my first fertile day (assuming my body is acting normal this month and I haven't already O'ed when I had ewcm), and now I'm nervous since I had such a light AF. I don't know if I want to try any further this month. I haven't decided.

Sorry for your loss fairycat.

I also thought 6 months was ridiculous, especially given my age (and my maternal family history). My doc is a GP though, not an OB-GYN, so I'm guessing his knowledge about pregnancy and fertility etc. is just simply outdated. I'm just not listening to him.

I've read a lot of threads where other docs recommend waiting 1-3 cycles, and some say "go ahead once you feel emotionally ready". I was emotionally ready right away but felt maybe the first cycle would have been too soon in terms of uterine lining/hormonal issues.

Good luck this month!! Fingers crossed!

Thanks eva, sorry for your loss as well. I read something yesterday that they used to tell women to wait 6 months, but not anymore. Would make sense if it was your GP. I always wonder why the differences in time span that different doctors give.

I've had 2 D&Cs in the past and ovulated immediately after both of them because I was able to get pregnant rather easily. I became pregnant after 2 complete cycles with my first D&C and only one cycle of my second D&C, both on the first cycles of trying. Unfortunately for me neither ended up being sticky because I had infections that I didn't know about. I let my most recent mmc happen naturally as to avoid another surgery and have not ovulated yet after two complete cycles so far... I'm on my third right now. I don't know why the surgeries didn't mess up my cycles but my natural did so I would say that you *should* ovulate since you had the D&C done. As to how long to wait... I wouldn't listen to your doctor about the 6 month time limit. He obviously doesn't know what he is talking about. I became pregnant with my DS only 3-4 months after going full term with my DD and had a healthy pregnancy.

Hey! So sorry that you are also in this boat. Waiting 6 months seems very excessive. We were told just to wait one month which is what we did.
I had my D and C back In April so am on my 7th cycle since but 6th cycle of trying again. This is the longest it's taken me to fall PG as first time was 4 months and 2nd only 3. But in the grand scheme of things 6 months isn't long at all. I would rather wait if it means I can finally carry a baby to term. I think that the body takes a while to get back into sync after the procedure so I guess it taking longer than normal is well, normal.
My AF only got back to the normal 28 day cycle a couple of cycles ago and my AF has been more watery I would say, however that is improving.

I would say just go for it if you are ready and things do sort themselves out. It took my body 5 cycles to get back to normal. Good luck :hugs:

Thanks for responding lilmisscaviar and Trying4first1. I'm sorry for your losses, too.

lilmisscaviar - what do you mean you have not yet ovulated after 2 complete cycles? Do you mean you had AF but you were taking OPKs and they never registered "about to ovulate"? (I don't exactly know how OPKs work... I tend to assume I ovulate around when I get cramping mid-cycle and ewcm). Can AF just show up even if you haven't ovulated? I'm sorry to hear about your infections... were those from the op?

Trying4first1 - I agree, 6 months seems pretty normal, even though at the time it feels a bit frustrating. I'm lucky I'm not in that boat yet. This AF did seem a bit more normalish than my last one. So, getting there, I hope!

Good luck! xo

My circles were lighter after my 1st mmc with brown spots

This time they are shorter (25-26 days , I'm on my 3rd period now), heavier & more painful. I'll turn 37 next month.
