I'm struggling for things to give to Tommy for his dinner.. Most days I give him a cheese sandwich or cheese spread sandwich or cheese on toast.. I need to give him more of a variety!

Is it okay to give him tinned soup? I intend on making my own soup soon but just don't have the energy to do it at the moment.

I don't see why not, I would just be careful of the salt content

That's what I'm worried about.. It says how much there is on the tin but I don't know how much is too much

Babies can't have more than 1g salt per day (I think!) but maybe google to be sure! I'd be wary about tinned soup I'm betting it's packed with salt.. But again I could be wrong! Why not buy some pre cut veg.. No prep needed just ram it all in a pan with a low salt stock cube and water :flower: xxx

I've just looked on a tin of chicken soup and there's 1.6g so I definately won't be giving Tommy any! Wow! Didn't realise there was so much!

Peeling veg isn't a problem, it's just I've never made soup myself before and I'm not sure what to put in it  I've got some special stock cubes for babies from boots and they don't contain any salt x

Oh it's easy u can't really go wrong! I do leek and potato.. One onion, 2 leeks, a fair amount of potatos, and sometimes a carrot it I have one. Chop all the veg, sweat it in a pan with a bit olive oil (4-5mins), add water from the kettle to cover the veg and add my stock cube. Only take about 20-30mins to boil then wa la! Lol. U can do any veg really it doesn't matter too much. 👍 I've never followed a recipe for it I just go with the flow! Xxx

Edit: thought maybe the pre cut veg would be good if you are feeling tired. I know I often can be bothered with all that prep so I use it sometimes. The frozen pre cut an be handy Too to keep in the freezer xxx

You can put whatever you like in! :D I tend to buy the packs of pre-diced veg when I don't feel like prepping it-carrot, swede, parsnip etc and cooking it with stock until it's soft and blitzing it. I prefer it quite thick, and my daughter seems to find it easier too but you can always try adding extra stock if you like it a bit thinner.
ETA-pea and ham soup is really easy too and there will me loads of recipes on the internet.

I've got: onions, carrots, potatoes, parsnip, red pepper, green pepper and orange pepper.. You reckon I can make anything with them? Xx

Mine always had tinned soup not loads just abit for a dinner I always added little potatoes or rice in. Sometimes just on its own and no harm has come to my children..
There's is salt in but just give every other day not constantly..
I did mention this to the consultants and they said same as h/v so it's ok from personally :flower:

Forgot to say he's not having a whole tin so he's not getting the whole salt intake.

Yeh the onion carrot potato and parsnip would make lovely soup!! Xxx

I give canned soup to DD, but started when she was two-ish. I just added a bit more water. she loved it so why not, works especially well when she's sick. I wouldn't give it at dinner though, better for lunch because of too much water.

Dinner is lunch where I come from :haha:

Carrot & coriander.

Onion, lb carrots, pint stock, dried coriander, boil, blitz  soups are so easy, slow cooker will be fab!

Yeah Id deffo make your own. At least then you can feel confident about what lo is eating. I always keep a bag of frozen carrots or cauliflower n brocolli. U can use these along with a potato n onion to make either carrot & coriander or brocolli n cheese soup. Add a baby stock cube and make in a good quantity. That way you can freeze it. Always a good standby when you need it. If you want to thicken soups you can add lentils / rice or pasta. My lo loves minestrone. I use onion, garlic, celery (only if I have it) and add tinned tomatoes. Blend then add blanched carrots, cannellini beans and pasta along with stock. We BLW so he loves dipping bread and can pick up the chunky bits. So easy and a meal that can do as a tea time meal as its heartier.

There are loads of other 'easy' things you could be offering. Slices of apple, grapes , pears, banana, raisins (loads of different fruits). The same with veg; sliced carrots, broccoli florets etc.

Why not even do little pots of mashed potato - this could be combined with some veg or even a little bit of cheese. I'd also chop some meat really finely and mix it through.

Noodles, pasta, crackers, salads.

The list really is endless - it just takes a bit of thinking.
