Hi everyone.

This morning I have noticed these tiny purple spots on my LO's leg. It's only one leg and isn't anywhere else on his body. He seems absolutely fine in himself, no fever or anything, but naturally it's worried me.

My husband is taking him to the doctor at 9 (I'm out for the day) so we will be getting a medical opinion but I just wondered if anyone else had ever experienced anything like this?

Have you done a glass test? Do they fade when pressure is applied to them?

Haven't done a glass test but my husband pressed on them and they didn't seem to go anywhere.

first thing id do is the glass test with purple rash :\ go do one.

He's at the doctor's now. Just waiting to hear what the doc says, but wondered if anyone had experienced this in the meantime.

There are a few things that cause these...in an otherwise well child the most usual thing is when they have been carried in a sling or suspended from a jumparoo and a few blood vessels have burst.

As the other ladies have suggested if it doesn't disappear with a glass the rash is purpuric, and the most famous cause of this is meningitis...however he would be unwell in himself also, as the purpuric rash is a late sign. Other causes include viruses (again you would notice him being poorly), low platelets or something called hsp..henloch scholein purpura which is rare and normally occurs on both sides not just one. Your gp may want to run a blood test or get him checked by a paed, but often it's just a wait and see.

Hope this helps, but in the vast majority of cases I've seen it's been caused by a physical problem such as a sling/bumbo seat etc. hope he's ok.
Xx

My LO got this a few weeks ago and he was admitted to hospital and they did tests but he was soo happy in himself and all results came back clear.

Then last week they were back again on his legs but the doctor was not concerned because he was absolutley fine in himself again with no fever and eating well and wet nappies etc...

Im gladd your LO got checked out but im with you on this one :) its a total mystery as to why he gets them

xx

Oh thanks for your help ladies. He does have a jumperoo so maybe that's the cause?
The doctor said the same, that the rash in the case of meningitis is late in terms of symptoms, that fever etc comes first and as he's eating fine, peeing, pooing and happy, it's just one of those things. Not a pleasant experience though!
