Tips on collecting SA sample - need help from your partners

Hello! My DH is going for his first SA on Monday and he's a bit concerned about being able to... errr... aim it in the cup. I can see where he's coming from. Erected penis is called erected for a reason. It's because it's facing up. It's kinda like asking me to pee in a cup standing on my head.

I told him to just scoop it up, but now read that apparently you're not even supposed to open the container in advance, not touch the inside, not collect whatever spilled out.

Any tips?

Oh, to add one more thing! I heard about condoms you can use for sperm collection. Basically I believe those are non-lubricated and non-spermicidal. Anyone knows what brand makes those?

Edit: nevermind about this one. I found the brands that are supposedly safe to use and all those are definitely mail order only. Won't be able to get it in time.

I was worried my DH would miss the pot too, he practiced once beforehand in a small cup at home and said it was fine - have you tried that?

I've never heard you can't open the cup, most of our samples are done at the clinic and the cup is open anyway?
But yes, scooping, touching the fluid etc isn't allowed.

I wouldn't use a condom either as some of the content will get left on the inside....and your counting numbers here

Just practice at home and see how he gets on, I think it must not be as tricky as it sounds.

Hi Nell! Thank you for the input! He did practice a few times at home and said it was quite tricky! He did get some in a cup, but not all of it. No more chance to practice further, as the test in 3 days from now. I'm not concerned about some of it staying in condom, I'm concerned there's none at all in the cup

I did google some more and apparently some just did it in the condom, tie it up and left it in the cup. But I'd guess the lab should be ok with that. Either way, unless they actually have those condoms available there, there's no chance to try that at this time. I also read about couples actually having sex with those condoms and simply bringing that in. That sounds like a much easier way.

I do think I found one good tip, a guy described that he thought the best way to aim was doing it laying on a side. But again, that provided that they even have a place to lay down. There were jokes about doing it in downward facing dog yoga position LOL

Honestly, I do think they could have thought about simplifying the process somehow. Obviously, I'm not a guy, but even I can imagine how aiming it into a cup when you're about to come would be tricky.

It's frankly disappointing what's in there when they do hit the cup - just 2-5ml, less than a teaspoonful. It feels like so much more when you BD LOL!

It's just a test, if it goes wrong you can repeat it, I mean, it's a relatively easy enjoyable test compared to the ones us women have - right?!.

My DH always complains about the cup size, says it's like trying to aim to fill a thimble

my oh had issues the 1st time he did a sa... he said the cup was smaller than the end of his penis and it was like trying to aim for a test tube he missed the end of it... i dont like to think where that bit went eww.

this time the clinic had larger pots and he said that was easier... if they give your oh a tiny tiny cup, maybe he could ask for a bigger one?

Hehe, no kidding! It feels it's coming out of me the whole day after we BD and in a cup it's barely anything!

I think we'll find out on March 7th, the next FS app. Provided that the sample ends up in the cup

Mr Urch missed the cup completely when he went to do a sample - and scraped up his leavings off the floor!

Well, he couldn't do it. The room was basically tiny bathroom size with a chair, sink, TV and very brightly lid. The TV was off and no remote, so not even sure what was it there for. There were no dvds, no magazines, no nothing. You could hear people talking and taking calls through the thin walls. And to top it up it had sensor activated light. Means it was going off automatically every 3 minutes and he either had an option of going in complete darkness or get up and walk around to active it. He still tried and almost made it, but when it came to actually doing it, he found the lid on the cup was screwed on too tight, so there... no go.

I hope this thread will at least help some guys to feel better if they can't manage to do it in the lab as well. We rescheduled and he's going to do it at home and bring it in.
The good news, we had some quality BD'ing as soon as we got home. I've been so horny in the last days and loaded with EWCM, so as far as I'm concerned, I'm happy I was the one who ended up with the "sample"

My DH had his SA recently and had a terrible experience as well. He was mortified of course, especially when the "ancient" receptionist brought him in the room and began naming the titles of the different movies. He said he could see people walking by through the crack in the door. They did have a back exit he could use when he was done, it would light a sensor for the nurse to see and know he was done and come and collect his sample cup. So when he did make his erm, deposit, and left through the back door, the receptionist CHASED after him in the hallway to ask if he'd washed his hands!!! Omg, the poor man was mortified.

Thanks, hun! They had that sorts of drawer deposit system, like they have in banks, so that he would just put the cup in and slide it sideways. The chair was right next to it and he said he could hear everything people were saying on that side of the wall. Those were the people expecting the sample At least they weren't actually talking about samples, but it didn't help knowing that they were there actually waiting for it.

Oh my!! I can imagine how that must have felt! In the last week I was searching google for this subject and so many stories came up! It would seem like medical establishment just has no clue! They must think that men should just be thrilled about any chance they get to do it.

I did take a look at that room btw (he waved me in to ask what I think we should do after it didn't work) and to be honest I'm not sure I'd be able to do it there myself! And it doesn't usually take me much effort at all.

We're about 15 minutes away by car. They said it has to be there within 30 minutes. I know it means that we might get lower numbers, but I don't care much about that. I would be fine to know that there are SOME happy swimmers there

15 mins is really close my oh wanted me to take his sperm sample on the train tucked under my arm 40 mins to the clinic (he couldnt get time off work)... i said no!!

My oh was fuming when he came out!!

They gave him a tiny cup which was smaller than the end of his apparatus!! The room was just off the waiting area and had very thin walls.

There were magazines but they were so old and he didn't really want to be touching them and there was a tv with a Kylie Minogue concert playing!!

He totally missed and just scraped some of it up

The sample was enough luckily and they said that based on what they found they would expect the whole sample to be fine. Our FS said the sample was very good considering that all he had was Kylie haha

U guys are cracking me up That's what my DH said as well, that he didn't wanna touch any of the magazines. Poor thing. Our lab was just too far to drive the sample to. It's a good 40 minutes away by car.
