Tips on how to keep newborn awake during a feed?

The past few days Kaylee has been falling asleep during her feeds, which isn't a big deal but I'm needing to feed her nearly every hour! I'm trying to extend her feeds, they're lasting about only ten minutes, she won't even take my other breast. Any tips to extend time between feeds would be appreciated! Thanks

I always fed Niamh in just a vest, so she wouldn't get too cosy, then changed her halfway through a feed to wake her up a bit

My midwife swears by "a stripped baby will aslways feed" so get her down to the nappy. Also when she starts to doze, try tickling her feet or putting your finger in her palm so she grasps it and jiggling her arm or blowing gently on her face. This normally jolts them awake and they start sucking again, you just have to persist.

I would take all her clothes and nappy off if she started to nod off and put them all back on again.

I'd get Halen changed before a feed so he was properly awake, burp him halfway through to make sure he was still awake and have him in either just a nappy or a vest x

I do tonnes of things...sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't! I jiggle my boob a bit, blow her face, stroke her face, tickle her feet, play with her fingers, etc,

The best one is to very gently rub up and down her spine with two fingers (one either side) - normally does the trick ;-)

hey hun, Soph slept so much when she was 1-2 weeks old the midwives couldnt wake her for a feed and were thinking of taking her back to hospital!!! So i was on mission wake up! lol

First i changed her on a plastic changing mat, play with her hands and feet and talk to her, then keep her in just her vest and pop her on.. this usually works. Then if she falls asleep on the boob touch her neck and ears it tickles her and she wakes up, i'd have to do this every 3-4 mins throughout a feed!
Now shes much better but i still have to wake her atleast once in a feed!
