We just got our BFP last week so I am being very ahead of myself but we have 2 sons both names were easy decided but to this day (DS1 is 8!) and we still never actually agreed a name if either of them were girls!

I really love traditional English type names. DS1 is Billy (William) and DS2 is James so I want to stick on that line and not throw a shakira or beyonce into it!

I love the name Emily for a girl but my name is Emma-Louise and our surname is Evans so it would be

Emma-Louise Evans and Emily Evans. Its not just the fact they are both E I am often mistaken for Emily or Emmy Louise when I say my name its like people get confused and blend Emma and Louise together.

Is it too much?

I love Elizabeth and Victoria but we already get slagged (Friendly slagging from friends) enough for being Church of England but Irish.

My friend is called Emma and has a daughter called Emily, never really thought they sounded too similar or anything!

I don't think it's too close to be confusing in a real way. As siblings it would be to me, but as mother-daughter, it's kinda nice to share "Em" in your names.

I agree that for siblings I'd say yes but as a mother/daughter combo I think it's fine. If you think about it, lots of people name their children after themselves and share the exact same name.

There probably won't be a whole lot of situations where you find yourself saying both your name and your LO's name together, so I'd say go for it.

going from parent to child isnt as wierd as siblings, you could give her your name and I dont think it would cause an issue (dads do it all the time)

have you considered Emilia?
its a very pretty name too

other classic british names:

Alice
Mary
Margaret
Anna

^ was going to suggest Emilia too, very pretty name 💕, or Amelie, just to make it a little different? I honestly don't think that it's too similar if you do go with Emily though 👍🏻

I don't think it's too similar at all. My sister in law is Olivia and her dd is Alicia (Ah-Liss-ee-ya). Both with middle name Sarah and the same surname. Now that's too similar!

I say go for it :)

I think it's fine! I like traditional names too (we also have a William)

Emily is lovely. I love Victoria too we used it as a middle name for Alice.

I agree with the others, I'd say for siblings it would be too close but for mother and daughter its fine. Emily is such a pretty name :)

Hi Girls

Thanks for the replies. i'm getting excited now that no-one seems to think its to similar!!

I think one of my biggest reservations though is that I use the full Emma-Louise so Emily is not just similar to Emma it has the L in it too!

Ok so far its top of the list :)

I never thought of parents and children sharing names esp fathers even though ironically we have both said we'd call a 3rd boy the same as DH!!! Yet I'm here fretting about a similar name!!

Emily Margaret :)

Thank You!!
