5th July AM - I woke up in the morning feeling as rough as anything from a rotten cold I managed to get a couple of days before.. I made a doctors appointment as I thought I had a chest infection.. Once at the doctors she tried to find Toby's heartbeat with the doppler and after what seemed forever, found it beating really fast. She sent me straight to hospital for monitoring on the proper heart rate machines.
5th July PM - I was on the machines for 4 hours and they were concerned as I could not feel him move around, I was told when he was moving and even the midwifes couldn't feel it when they put there hands on my tummy. A registrar from Labour Ward then came down and decided I needed to be induced..
From that Thursday until Saturday the 7th, I was given 4 x Prostin Gels and checked regularly.. My cervix was still up high but was thinning out, so there was hope.. I was so frustrated being in hospital and began to get really emotionally distressed, it was decided by another registrar that if I didn't go into Labour that night naturally that they would break my waters.
Sunday 8th July - My labour didn't happen overnight, so was taken up for my waters to be broken.. This was my first experience with Gas & Air and omg I thought I was in heaven!! I was told that I had 3 hours to regulate my contractions otherwise I would need to go on the IV Drip to false them on. Me and my OH must have done about 6 laps of the hospital and a full hours worth of bouncing on the ball to only get irregular contractions and 2cms of dilation!!
I then went on the IV drip and was told to expect full on contractions within half hour, and sure enough they were coming strong and fast. I was maxed up to the maximum dose of 60 of the drip and contractions were every 30 seconds lasting not very long. I then decided to get pethadine cos I was so tired after not sleeping properly since the Wednesday before! I was told to give the gas and air back, but there was no way someone was gonna take that from my hands unless they wanted a punch. It was so nice having both lol, my OH since told me I was talking a load of crap to the doctors/midwifes that were there and cried until he brushed and played with my hair for half hour! Hahaha.
The doctor came in to check me at 10pm, after the IV drip was making Toby's heartrate drop with every contraction, I was so excited to think I was so far and nearly ready to push, to find my body hadn't dilated at all and I was still only 2cms! I was so upset! The doc then decided an EMCS needed to happen..
Within minutes, my OH was scrubbed up, and I was being wheeled in (Even though I fought with them to let me walk!!) The THREE huge needles were put in my back, even though you would have thought it was my OH going through it the way everyone asked if HE was ok because he looked like he was gonna pass out! Within seconds the spinal worked and a couple more minutes after that my LO was born! On his due date. I really was on cloud nine, despite all the pain and tiredness.. He was so worth it.
He weighed 7lbs 5oz & has the cutest blonde hair ever!
I was a little gutted that OH couldn't cut the cord but it didn't matter once our baby was here..
I was kept in hospital until Tuesday to recover, and am still finding it hard as my stomach is so sore.
I will upload pics of my gorgeous boy once on my laptop!! x
