I had my internal scan today and i'm confused about it.
:dohh:

She said theres an indication of pcos.
She didn't mention anything about cysts, she just said i had lots of follicles (roughly 20)

Are follicles cysts?
Have i got pcos?

x

I know a few people that have pcos.......but do not have cysts. I think it has something more to do with hormones.

Your signature says confirmed pcos........metaformin is what is usually prescribed for that.

Best Wishes!

What are your next steps?

I'm so sorry!

I have cysts, which are horribly painful. I've always thought I might have PCOS but no DR believes so, however they thought endometreosis.

I hope you get some answers.

Hun they can confuse you... follicles the doctors refer to as cysts sometimes.. will forward you a post someone on LTTC helped me with re pcos and follicles and cysts..

SOME info someone posted me on one of my threads!! xx

Just quick bit of info re cysts etc as I got damn confused myself!! I got the consultant to draw me diagrams!!!

Although PCOS seems to infer PCOS suffers have cysts growing on their ovaries - they don't!! Basically every woman has folicals in their ovaries that have the ability to become an egg. In PCOS suffers there are so many folicals crowded in the ovary not many have the room to develop into an egg - hence lack of periods in pcos suffers and infrequent cycles. Cysts in their true form are very different to what PCOS sufferers have.

PCOS is really just a hormone imbalance that seems to be affected by a metabolic disorder such as insulin resistance. We form "cysts" (just so everyone knows, they refer to mature follicles as cysts... which can be confusing) but we don't have the appropriate LH surge to release anything, so it just stays in there (at least this is the way I understand it) and because we don't release an egg, we don't have regular periods (and when we do finally bleed, it doesn't imply ovulation ever occurred... it just implies that your uterine lining got too thick and estrogen forced it to come off... this is termed "abnormal uterine bleeding" and it usually heavier and more painful than a normal menstrual period). Hope this makes sense... this is how it was explained to me.

Does everyone with pcos have insulin resistance?

I'm scarred of becoming a diabetic or have heart disease.

xx

in my personal experience, no. I've been tested twice for IR and been clear each time. However, they still give metformin with pcos anyhow.

I've had tests for insulin resistence and they have come back negative. So I have PCOS without Insulin Resistence.

They wont prescribe me Metformin because of this.

Certainly not all PCOS sufferers have Insulin resistence. Not all have cysts on their ovaries either. Confusing I know!

Pusskin,
sounds like we have the same thing. My dr only did an internal scan to find out I had PCOS. All bloodwork came back fine. He noticed a bunch of tiny follicles(cyst) on my ovary that would never mature enough to create a healthy egg and that is why I am being treated for PCOS to help the follicles grow and be healthy enough for an egg. I have never had an issue with long periods or not getting a period just really small follicles. Did they say how big your follicles were?

I have the same too tiny follicles that wont mature, or if one does then its when ever it feels like it.. lol
My follicles were small and lady explained they wont remove them!!
The blood tests i had done came back just above boarderline.. mine were 1.7 and for pcos is above 1.6 for them to say you have it, so i have quite a mild case!!
Gyno wouldnt give me metroformin she said she would give me this to run aside with clomid but doesnt see it helping me on its own due to my pcos being mild (as she said)
Very annoying, cause now got to wait for a HSG scan in Ocotober cause she wont give me clomid until HSG scan!!

Understand that, as no point in taking clomid if tubes are blocked but its the waiting around that kind of does my head in!!

Also the loss of all my file, so some blood tests need to be repeated and so does OH sperm anaylsis as well.. WE have got a few months tho as not booked in till October for scan, then she said if all ok clomid is gonna be given to me!!

When i went for my internal she said i had a follicle that was 13mm and that was prob my next egg if it produced however period around about 10days ltr, and i dont think that follicle matured and i dont think i ovulated this cycle.. last cycle i am defo sure i did going off cm, this cycle no fertile cm or anything!!
xx

Beauty,
Sounds like we are in the same boat but my dr gave me clomid before he did a scan and discovered my PCOS like you very mild. Once he discovered he added the met and after a year on the clomid with no success I am just takin the met and my follicles are much bigger than they were before so I still think met alone is beneficial. I am probably going to try a different version of drug like clomid call femara if met doesnt work alone but mainly because I need to ov on my L side each month due to no tube on the R. Hope you get your BFP prior to Oct and wont have to worry about the clomid.

Thanks huni..
I hope you get your BFP soon..
Its bloody annoying having to wait and wait around isnt it!! Sometimes you wish u could just get seen soon as possible and get medication started as i feel like im getting no where soon!!

Hoping i dont have to have hsg scan in Ocotober but as soon as i feel positive things kick me down so tryin not to think much at the moment and see what happens come october time..
xx

Its so amazing to me how the different county's health care system work. In the USA I could probably have an appt by the end of the week and be on Femara if I wanted to but have chosen to wait a few months to give the met alone a try. I feel for you ladies that have to wait these long wait times just for appts. I guess there are pros and cons to both systems in that a lot of stuff I have to pay for would be covered under you health system. I really have learnt a lot just from these forums. Good Luck to us all. BFP's all around.
